This young city is home to the Volkswagen headquarters, as well as impressive modern museums and a picturesque river valley.
Wolfsburg is one of the few German cities built during the first half of the 20th century. It is located in the ancient valley of the River Aller in Lower Saxony, northeast of Brunswick. Explore Aller Park next to the river, where you can enjoy a white, sandy beach on a lake as well as a large green area. Here you can spend a few hours at the BadeLand Water Park, which is a perfect place for families.
Visit the Wolfsburg Cultural Center, which is split into four sections: a municipal library, a small school for adult education, a hobby and entertainment area, and an area for club meetings and community events. To continue your cultural experience of the city, spend an evening at the Wolfsburg Theater or visit the Art Museum, which is dedicated to the theme of modernism in the 21st century.
Learn about the universe through impressive exhibits and shows at the Planetarium. It is a perfect place to keep children entertained. Opposite the city’s heritage-listed train station, you will find the Phæno Science Center to continue your scientific education in the city. The building looks like a spaceship and has been called “Germany’s biggest walk-in sculpture.”
For those interested in cars, the Autostadt should be your next destination. It is an automotive exhibition complex and visitor center opened by Volkswagen. However, don’t worry if you’re not interested in cars because there is plenty more to see and do. You can watch films and simulators at the museum and see some impressive architecture. Then take a stroll through the parkland and beside the lakes. You will also find a number of restaurants to choose from in the area.
Buses serve the city and the train station is opposite the Autostadt, where you can commute to other major German centers. A number of the Wolfsburg attractions are within walking distance of each other and downtown.
