"Nice resort, beautiful beach, not worth upgrades"
We booked Catalonia Royal Tulum for our honeymoon, and it turned out to be a great resort. We were "privileged" guests, so we had access to the BLoved restaurant, which had great food and good bartenders. The worst part of our stay was when they talked us into seeing their other resort ten minutes away, offered us breakfast, and told us we'd have a brief "sales presentation" that altogether would take 1.5 hours. Three hours later, I was furious because the salesman was extremely pushy with their version of a timeshare, and would not take no for an answer. Just say no to seeing their other location-- the beach at the Tulum location is much better. My husband upgraded us, I think to the honeymoon package, which included a bigger room, a massage for both of us, dinner on the beach, a fruit basket with champagne, and a bottle of tequila. The upgrade honestly wasn't worth the money at all-- our room was pretty basic still; nice, but not what I would consider much different from a regular room, the massages were awful; it didn't seem the spa staff were trained properly, and the basket was basically grapes and a few apples. However we did really enjoy the dinner on the beach, that was lovely. Overall, we would definitely recommend the resort, however if we come back, we wouldn't upgrade, and will be sure to say no to anything additional that staff offer us.
