Room with a view

Posted Sep 23, 2017
Pros: The facility was exactly as described online by Expedia. Excellent with no surprises.
Cons: The hotel was excellent, but needs more and more convenient parking.
Location: Located close to picturesque harbor and many restaurants and shops. Hotel was a short drive to Cape Forchu lighthouse and park with a seaside trail.
Our first trip to Nova Scotia. Hotel staff was cheerful and welcoming despite our midnight arrival. Everything was spotlessly clean. Room had a nice view of harbor. Dining room was clean, efficiently run and had a large menu. Maintenance staff were courteous and hard working. Front desk manager was exceptional.

Stayed in this hotel because it wea close to ferry

Posted Sep 22, 2017
Pros: It was near the ferry from Portland, Maine
Cons: Better parking. Update furnishings.
Location: We did not stay in Yarmouth.
It was dark when we arrived. The parking lot is across a busy street, down a set of stairs on a dirt lot. There are no lights on the sign showing it's location. The hotel is old and in need of updating. Breakfast has to be ordered with a waitress. Buffet would speed things up.

Rodd So So not Rodd Grand

Posted Sep 21, 2017
Pros: staff were friendly and the location is great
Cons: maintenance
although the staff were nice the overall condition is poor, needs some maintenance and updating, some paint, some grout. tThey are charging too much for a rundown hotel. Lower prices until the updating is done and then go for a higher price . Could not recommend it right now but could in a few years after some renos and general clean up.

completely accommodating for late ferry arrival

Posted Sep 20, 2017
Wirh the ferry 2 hours late. arriving around midnight, the hotel staff was ready for the large number of late check ins. No need ro call and confirm your going to be late, which is a relief since there is little coverageon the ferry.

Really needs Refreshed.

Posted Sep 19, 2017
First off, all of the staff from the Front Desk to Housekeeping were great. The building itself is in need of refurnishing and shows a lot of wear. We have stayed in a lot of hotels recently and the Rodd was the most expensive per night and most in need of work. It is conveniently located and now their parking lot has been paved. We had a terrible experience with the restaurant and my wife got sick from her fried clam dinner. We would give the restaurant a Zero and avoid it. There are too many other good restaurants in town.

Middle-class

It was not bad, but nothing special. Clean, friendly staff. Expected more for 149.0 cad per night ( even breakfast wasn't included)

Never again

Posted Sep 17, 2017
Pros: The sauna.
Cons: Everything.
Location: Cape Forchu is a worthwhile stop as is the harbour area
We had high expectations given that this was the priciest accommodation on our holiday. The check in process was quick but the staff person was not friendly. From the moment we stepped onto the elevator it was very apparent that while it may have been grand in its day, the hotel is very tired and in serious need of renovations and TLC. The halls are dark. Some of the wall paper wainscot is held in place with scotch tape. The carpet in our room was, simply put, "gross". The grout in the bathroom was almost black. The tub was stained brown. The chrome on the faucet in the bathroom was rotting and peeling off. My husband came back from the whirlpool and pool area and declared that the whirl pool was so dirty that even he wouldn't get in it. The weight room is as tired as the rest of the building, circa 1970. No free weights. The only positive was the sauna.

Blocks from the CAT Ferry, wonderful views. Comfortable, clean room. An excellent choice.

Great location, a bit run down

Posted Sep 13, 2017
Pros: Location
Cons: Needs a little sprucing up.
Room was clean, but the place could use a little attention to the details. There were dust kittys hanging from the popcorn ceiling. Apparently the maids don't look up. The ceiling had been repaired after a water leak. That was ok, but the wall paper was stained and pealing below the leak site. The bathroom door was damaged (someone got locked in and they had to "jimmy" the door?) and not repaired properly. And all the baseboards need painting. The beds were comfy, and the AC was quiet. Convenient location near the restaurants and shops, and just blocks from the ferry terminal. Helpful staff.

Good location

I liked the restaurant in the hotel and it is good to stay on the Main Street. Convenient parking behind the hotel and a swimming pool (which I didn't try) looked inviting.
