Short visit to Yogyakarta

Pros: The room was nice and clean, all the amenities, comfortable beds, also the hotel is a great location, right in the middle of the city!
Cons: Local staff, as in all of Indonesia, could get customer service training. I asked if kitchen could wash bottles, got blank stare and pointed to toilet
Location: Maliboro street is kilometers away, shopping mall a five minute walk, hotel can arrange transport to major attractions in city.
Nice hotel, centrally located in the city, up to Western European standards, your standard business type hotel. Kids loved the pool and the doormen were VERY helpful in always getting us transportation, they were exceptional!

We enjoyed the stay very much. Being vegetarians, the hotel staff ensured customised veg food.

Pros: cleanliness of the hotel, pool, size of the room, friendly reception
Cons: staff of breakfast wasn't very friendly.
good room, good hotel, clean room and good pool. Just the stuff of breakfast could be a bit more kind and friendly. Breakfast could be a bit more vegan-friendly, for us it was to much meat and chicken and seafood.

Great Staff, Excellent Location for seeing Yogya

Pros: The staff and managers; room staff and room cleanliness and lay out; wonderful walking-distance access to some hip restaurants
Cons: The restaurant is excellent and the staff are great. Food prices are reasonable -- except for soft drinks and any other drink
Location: Within two walkable blocks in the Sagan residential neighborhoodlie two or three of the city's best new restaurants -- a great place to see locals.
I have traveled to Yogyakart for 30 years and watched it add dozens of new hotels to the local offerings. For mid-range, well-priced hotels, the Novotel remains one of my two favorites. The staff are superb-- considerate, well trained, and as friendly as you will find anywhere. The rooms are ample, and, although some of the bathtub facilities show a little age, the room staff keep them clean and pleasant. The fitness center is also well-outfitted, although during peak hours the two treadmills are quickly taken; the hotel used to have three treadmills and would do well to add a third. But, once again, the fitness center staff are great, and the machines and weights very good. As to room choices, all choices are good, but I particularly like the executive rooms -- with free laundry and an espresso machines. Hotel breakfasts are also, not just good, but excellent -- with superb staff once again. Do remember to order the breakfast option when you book your room. All in all, this is a very reasonably priced, pleasant, and well managed hotel -- a restful place in a great city.

Not up to Novotel standards

Pros: Although it is old, the cleaner did a good job in maintaining cleanliness.
Cons: Staffs need to up their English standards. Toilets needs to be upgraded. Toilet and basin are choking.
Location: Location is next to the Matahari old shopping mall, where you can get fast food and a hawker center and also a departmental store to get some clothes.
I felt that the perceived value of Novotel hotel standard is higher than the actual experience in Yogyakarta. I found it disappointing and the hotel is old and in need of renovation to the bathroom. The bath tub starts to flood and the basin floods too. The bath towels are greyish in colour. The water that came out of the tap is also greyish in colour. On none smoking floors, i saw patrons smoking with their room doors open when i walked passed it. This does not make any sense to me since they offer smoking rooms as an option.

Good accomodation but distance problem

Pros: Clean happy staff
Location: nothing in tourist terms to do nearby
Nice place, clean Good gym facilities. Good sauna. Adequate breakfast. Happy and helpful staff.

One of Yogya's Best Priced and Best Hotels

Pros: Just about everything.
Cons: For this price range, everything here is done well.
Location: Although not located in the busy Malioboro district, this hotel has easy access by taxi to everything in and nearby Yogya.
This is a conveniently located and very well run hotel, north of Yogyakarta's historical Malioboro district, and just south of the Gadjah Mada University Campus. I've traveled to Yogya for 30 years, and this is one of my two favorite hotels in this (excellent) price range. The staff are great, the rooms ample and pleasant, and the restaurant -- although quiet in the evenings -- offers a fine range of European and Indonesian food. The fitness center is also very good, and the staff there both helpful and welcoming.
