Fabulous little hotel in a perfect location.

Posted Oct 18, 2016
We were three staying overnight last weekend. We had a three bed suite and it was brilliant. Lovely decoration, very clean, staff were very helpful and breakfast was not bad either. Such a great find in the pretty town of Avallon. I highly recommend this over the other option in the area.

Charming hotel in the middle of Avalon

Posted Aug 8, 2016 on Hotels
We loved the hotel. Our room had an upstairs for us, and a downstairs for the kids. It was spacious, charming and really comfortable. (I actually don't think the pictures do the hotel justice, it's delightful!). And the staff are super-friendly. This was a real find. A last minute choice that was one of the most charming of our trip.

Dear Chris, Thank you so much for your kind comment, we are so happy to read thad you did appreciate your stay in our lovely hôtel. We have 30 rooms, all are very differents, that's why it is impossible to have a picture of all, at least have you get a nice surprise discovering your room. The fact is that we receive you more as "guests" than "clients" and we are glad to know you have felt welcomed in Avallon. All the Best, Hostellerie de la Poste's Staff

Following Napoleon

Posted Aug 8, 2015 on Hotels
Overnight, room spacious clean and bathroom functional, i.e. the shower over the bath did not soak the room as in most hotels! The bathroom was also quite spacious and well laid out. Staff friendly and welcoming, spoke very good English. Restaurant first class, new chef and staff about six months ago and they are good. Breakfast was ample and a very generous spread, meats, cheeses and all of the sinful bread products!

Great location, friendly staff, lovely room

Posted Aug 23, 2014
Pros: The staff, the room , the location
Cons: No
Location: It is almost directly across from the old part of town, the cathedral and restaurants. Parking was available right outside and it was free.
The hotel was as advertised. We were greeted by a very friendly young lady who took us to our room. The room was lovely, quiet and a fabulous bathroom overlooking the courtyard. It was quiet and there was ample space and a huge bathroom. We didn't have the breakfast but I'm sure it would have been good. Staying in a hotel where Napoleon stayed was an added bonus.

Spacious, comfortable, quiet room

Room was very nice with separate seating/table area and full use of a mini fridge. Restaurant was disappointing as both staffing and food not up to expected standard.Central town location and free, secure parking on the positive side.

A beautiful traditional french hotel.

Posted Jul 29, 2013
Pros: The traditional french decor.
Cons: As it is a 4 Star hotel, would expect up-to-date amenities, i.e. air conditioning and somebody to help carry the luggage to the room.
Location: Avalon is delightful and would not hesitate to go back - steeped in history and charming.
We arrived at the hotel in temperatures reaching 30c+. There were steps into reception - no porter to help with luggage. We were given keys to our room which was off the courtyard. There was nobody available to show us to our room. The room was at the top of a steep staircase, which proved uncomfortable to deal with when handling heavy luggage. On arriving at the room we were extremely disappointed to find that there was no form of a/c; it was also impossible to close the shutters on the exterior of the building. The room was unbearably hot and we knew it would be impossible to sleep in such high temperatures without any form of shade or a/c. It was also evident that the room had not been cleaned efficiently as there was an item of rubbish under the chest of drawers. I complained to the receptionist, who fortunately moved us to a much nicer room at the front of the hotel with a/c..

Overall Good

Pros: The historical component - Napoleon slept there.
Cons: Grubby carpet
Location: Historical centre of the village very interesting.
The only negative was the carpet - pale beige - was grubby. Staff were warm, friendly and helpful. Fantastic bathroom and lovely towels.

Overnight stop from Bellagio to Paris

Posted May 27, 2012 on Hotels
We booked this as a stop over from the Karen Brown book. The hotel is charming but, there is very little of interest in Avallon. All the restaurants were closed or sort of just ok with people smoking at the table next to you. That left the only choice at the hotel. Very good food but it was too stuffy. One other couple eating there that stayed the night so the big room felt empty. The new owners are really nice and I hope it works for them. I really feel they need to make the dining a little more casual for it to work.
