Hodakaso Yamano Hotel

Hodakaso Yamano Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"We lived our stay at this very authentic ryokan like hotel. The staff were generous and kind, we were able to book the private onsen for a very reasonable price to accommodate our tattoos and our family going together. The half board was delicious. This is not a luxury stay so much as a real Japanese cultural experience and we had a great time as a family of four USA folk with teens."

Komakusa Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"From the very start to the very finish of our stay, my family and I felt so very welcomed. The hotel was extremely clean and orderly. This particular hotel is very cozy. The onsen bath/ ofuro was extremely relaxing, clean, and refreshing. The staff are above and beyond professional and extremely courteous. We will definitely come back to stay at this hotel. We highly recommend this hotel after a long day of hiking and sightseeing."

Morino Hotel

Morino Hotel

8/10 Good
"Our experience with this hotel was overall good! Staff was kind and friendly, facilities were a little dated and the lighting inside the room needs updating, pure white light is not the most pleasant, however the traditional Japanese bedroom experience was very cool! Breakfast was also awesome! That alone made this experience super cool!"

Okuhida Hot Spring Hirayukan

Okuhida Hot Spring Hirayukan

10/10 Excellent
"Okuhida Hot Spring Hirayukan is conveniently located, just a short and easy walk from the Hirayu Onsen bus terminal. A small shop beside the ryokan sells snacks and drinks, which is useful especially in the quieter evenings. Check in was smooth and the ryokan already had our Expedia reservations. As with most Japanese ryokan, copies of our passports were taken. We stayed in the Japanese Style Room, Sengakuso, Non Smoking (35 sqm). Footwear must be removed at the main lobby and changed to the in house slippers, in line with traditional ryokan customs. Our room was located some distance away from the main lobby and required climbing two flights of stairs, with no lift access. There were no shower facilities in the room, which is typical for many traditional ryokan. The onsen baths are located in the main building, and the male and female bathing areas are rotated once a day. Buffet dinner offered at Y4400 per person from 6pm. It was enjoyable and good value, with a wide selection including seafood. Each table is provided with two fuel stoves, and guests can choose between grilling, hotplate, or hotpot to cook the raw food. A nice touch is the free ramen served at the main lobby from 10pm to 10.30pm, perfect for a light supper after a soak in the onsen."

What is the best area to stay in Yoriaido?
The best area to stay in Yoriaido is the central village area, particularly around the main street, for convenient access to amenities and the ski slopes. This central area is the heart of Yoriaido, characterized by its traditional Japanese inns (ryokans) and guesthouses. The main street, which runs through the village, is where you'll find most of the shops, restaurants, and rental facilities. It's also where the shuttle buses typically stop, making it easy to get around even without a car. For those looking for a blend of traditional hospitality and modern convenience, this area is ideal. For couples seeking a relaxing and culturally rich experience, staying in a ryokan within the central village is an excellent choice. Many ryokans offer private onsen (hot spring baths), traditional multi-course dinners (kaiseki), and a tranquil environment. This allows for a deeper appreciation of Japanese culture while still being steps away from ski lifts and dining options.Families will find the central village convenient due to its proximity to ski school meeting points and family-friendly dining.
