Nice hotel in a lovely settingPosted Jan 3, 2018
Staff went out of their way to accommodate us: friendly and helpful, changing our room to one that could accommodate our needs. Friendly staff, a restaurant, bar, an elevator and an attractive setting all helped to make this a lovely stay. Further from central York than I had anticipated (half an hour's drive) but great to explore surrounding towns and places.

Nice hotel, too far away from centre.Posted Dec 11, 2017
Location of hotel was not ideal being so far away from the centre of york. Had to take the car and pay crazy money to park it. Bed was hard, not a great sleep. Room size and cleanliness was good. Newly decorated bathroom was great but the shower was dodgy. Will be booking early next time to get a city centre hotel.

Booked a Double room only to find 2 single beds pushed together which were obviously very uncomfortable. Heating in the room was non existent. Told the Receptionist and she apologised for the inconvenience.

Shame about the noise after midnightPosted Nov 25, 2017
Hotel was fully booked Friday night late November. Room lovely and warm, good large bathroom. However, drink fuelled guests decided to chat/laugh loudly from 12.15 am to past 1am. Furthermore thin ceiling/creaky floors meant person in room above sounded like an elephant galloping around (after midnight). Shame, a poor nights sleep at an otherwise comfy hotel

A poor example of the British hospitality industryPosted Nov 20, 2017
Pros: Nothing except the low price
Cons: Staff training
Location: York has plenty of attractions.
Hotel like a morgue. No charm, comfort or character. Staff unprofessional throughout, and one particularly rude to another guest in our hearing. The cost was low and the reason was obvious; this hotel has no redeeming features. Temperamental hot water in the room. Poor choice for breakfast.

Peaceful settingPosted Nov 20, 2017
Friendly staff, made this short stay in a pleasant hotel really enjoyable. The food was good and ideally situated 20 minutes away from York.

not be going back there againPosted Nov 18, 2017
Pros: nice bathroom, food ok
Cons: heating in room, mattress, drinks prices, food prices.
Location: in middle of nowhere, nothing else to do and nowhere else to go
Check in smooth, room freezing, no heating. Complained to reception and they said we could have another quilt, wow, what did they expect us to do with that? sit in the room together with it around our shoulders? how would that make the room warmer? disgusting. Went and complained to duty manager, who tried to find us a portable heater for room, are you joking?2 other rooms next to ours had no heating also, so big problem. After third complaint and threatening to leave and get money back they finally gave us another room, what a shambles for a best western hotel. Also mattress was ancient, lumpy and springs very bad, poor nights sleep for me. Pub was tiny for size of hotel, nowhere to sit for food, all times for dinner had gone, drinks expensive, food expensive, but when we did eat it was very good, so top marks for that. Glad to leave and will never go back, what a very poor experience. Staff seemed like they had heard it all before and couldn't care less
