I absolutely love this place I’ve stayed here a few times. My room had a balcony both times it’s super cute and vintage and cozy. In the winter it’s like a movie scene. It’s also relatively close to Yosemite without having to pay 500$ to stay in the park

Nice authentic and quirky place with friendly staff. Great location for the giant sequoias. Shame the pool wasn’t open.

The Narrow Gauge Inn is in a great location for visiting Yosemite National Park and is very close to the entrance. We stayed at the Narrow Gauge Inn 20 years ago on our last visit to California. According to the website it has since changed hands a number of times, but the decor hasn't changed. Whilst it is in a great location, it was looking rather tired and the room we stayed in looked pretty much the same as it did 20 years ago.

Cozy and almost cabin-like. Great quiet little retreat close enough to enjoy Yosemite or Bass Lake and get away from all the busy areas at the end of the day. It is a bit far from services and the restaurant was open only with prior reservations, just be advised (wasn't a big issue for us).

Total disappointment, the room was too high for what I expected, it's just a small room, without a closet, the hot water takes a long time to come out, the curtains don't close and everything is very old

The staff was pleasant and as helpful as they could be, with abundant challenges to overcome. The rooms are not clean, the sheets did not fit the bed on night one, the mattress was the worst I have slept on, and the furniture on the beautiful patio was in terrible condition. The setting and staff made the stay tolerable.

Great location, very nice people
Great location, people were very nice and helpful. Rooms are older, had some small issues like no tissues in room, light bulbs out or light didn't work. But you should expect things like that from a place built in the 50s. The advise they gave us on getting into Yosemite early was worth everything . Saved us so much. Had dinner at the restaurant and it was very good. Recommend.

Room and property in general dated and run down. Mattress very soft and bed squeaky. Met our needs as a launching pad for Yosemite but not the kind of place that makes you want to linger.

Love the rustic-ness of Narrow Gauge Inn!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Narrow Gauge Inn. The staff were unfailingly friendly and very helpful, particularly with a slightly later check-out request. I would say it is a work in progress for making some updates, but being rustic is a large part of its charm. A better mattress would be a request along with a larger shower compartment, but otherwise, found the accommodations to be quite suitable for a visit to Yosemite. The onsite restaurant is a bit pricey but the food is very good and the atmosphere very nice. Most entrees are large enough to share, offsetting the higher cost. We would definitely stay at Narrow Gauge again, if the opportunity presents itself.

It was pretty disappointing as we hoped this would be really nice for nearly $200 a night. The staff were friendly, but the room was worse for wear and dated. Hair in the sink, half used shampoo bottles and one mint to share between two. A really cold room upon arrival which after a day hiking in snow was a shame. The shower was awful and the restaurant wasn't open and it would have been nice for that to have been made clear before booking as there was no reduced rate for lack of amenities. If the justification for some of the issues outlined above were for sustainability reasons, then I would respect that, but I believe the disappointments were a result of poor hospitality.

Hello Lucy, I would like to start by apologizing for the inconveniences during your stay. Our restaurant is open regularly from Thursday to Sunday. As for the issues in the room, we are a historic inn, originally built in the 1950's, this may attribute to some of the dated appearance, however that is not an excuse for any cleanliness issues, which I do apologize for. This is not typical of our practices here at Narrow Gauge Inn and we will certainly be looking into this and how to prevent it in the future. If you travel this way in the future and would consider staying with us again, please give us a call directly so we may assist you as best we possibly can. Beautiful room, friendly staff, a functioning steam train on site, and minutes to Yosemite. What else can you ask for? The breakfast pickings were slim, but perfectly sufficient and quite tasty.

The room was cozy and bright. The deck, excellent spot for morning coffee, good coffee in lobby. Quiet place. Staff friendly and helpful. Great location to Yosemite. Breakfast and sandwiches available to purchase.
