Overall good location, hotel is nice. It would be nice to see a complimentary bottle of water provided in the room for the 1st night at the very least. No physical price list for the mini bar in the room, the tv menu did not work, and the phone app you can download would not work with the new operating system on my Samsung. Minor inconveniences all in all.

We made an expensive mistake staying here and hope you'll avoid doing the same. Yes, we read the great reviews, but we're very seasoned travelers and want to tell you the truth about this place. A few major deal-breaker issues with the hotel: 1. You are literally next to a train station with trains coming in at all random hours of the day and night. Good luck having a good night's sleep. 2. Indifferent staff: our check in was horrible - the woman taking our passport seemed totally uninterested in her job. I made a joke about the open champagne bottle behind her and she said she almost forgot to offer a glass to my wife and me, which is standard. Keep in mind we checked in on a Sunday and it was not busy at all. 3. Inexcusably, for a hotel that claims it is the best in a European capital city, they cannot or will not break large Euro bills into small ones (so you can, ironically, tip their staff, pay for taxi rides, etc.). Imagine staying at the Waldorf in NYC, and they said they couldn't break a $100 bill for you into $10 and $20s? Would. Never. Happen. Incredible. 4. You are NOT close to any of Zagreb's amazing cafes, restaurants, etc. Unless you like staring at a water fountain, there are better and cheaper hotels nearer the city's many wonderful plazas. All in all, this is WAY overpriced for what you get, the rooms are small and outdated, and you are far from where all the action is - the trendy cafes, restaurants, etc. Please save your money and stay elsewhere.

Our recent stay at Esplanade Zagreb can be summarized as rather average, falling short of the expectations typically associated with a five-star hotel. The property exudes an air of age, with a noticeable lack of attention to detail evident in various aspects of our experience. One notable issue was the oversight in replenishing basic amenities in our room following housekeeping visits. The absence of a coffee cup and water glass meant we were unable to enjoy a cup of coffee at our convenience. Additionally, the Wi-Fi connectivity was disappointingly slow, and the television was non-functional, failing to connect to our devices. Furthermore, the television itself was notably undersized. The provision of toiletries also left much to be desired, with miniature versions of L'Occitane cream and shampoo/conditioner being provided. Despite our attempts to address these concerns via email, we regrettably received no response, a lapse in communication uncharacteristic of a luxury establishment. Upon our arrival, we found the absence of a doorman or staff member to greet us and escort us to the reception area to be a noticeable oversight. Furthermore, there was no assistance offered with the transportation of our luggage to our room. In the dining facilities, while the quality of the food was commendable, the cocktails served were notably lacking in quality. Efforts to escalate our concerns to the management were met with disappointment!

This is your “Old World” inspired hotel with many updates for the 21st century. Rooms are quiet even though it is in the middle of city center area. Very comfortable beds. Thanks to the staff for a free upgrade.

The Hotel Esplanade is a beautifully preserved Art Deco building, giving it an amazing atmosphere. It has a convenient location both close to the Old Town and transportation. Our room was very attractive and provided a restful atmosphere. The staff was without exception professional, kind, friendly and helpful. I would just like to give special mention to the concierges Monika and Santiago, whose kind assistance helped make our stay unforgettable.

Writing this review I was torn about giving a 5 star and a 1 star rating. Esplanade is probably the most wonderful, historic and affordable Grand Hotel in Europe. And Zagreb is areally nice town. 5 Stars for a historic house in perfect condition, meticulously maintained, friendly an responsive staff and quite affordable. Simply a gorgeous place. 1 star rating for the bathroom arrangement for room 331. No doors, Besides the "son & lumière" scene, the lack of doors and bright lights will wake up your spouse if you need to take a pee at night. Who are the bloody architects who design such a mess. Management was very good offering amendments but be sure to check out the room/bathroom arrangementif you want to avoid unpleasant surprises.

The Esplanade oozes old world charm and elegance. Service was impeccable as was the food in the hotel restaurants. The hotel is located near the railway station and the entirety of central Zagreb is an easy walk. Also, excellent bathtub.
