With its glistening white cone visible from Reykjavík on a clear day, Snæfellsjökull is the most potent and enduring symbol of Snæfellsnes. If the glacier weren't there, however, the manifold wonders of Snæfellsnes would stand out just the same. Snæfellsjökull, (1,446 m) an ancient cone volcano, one of finest mountains in Iceland. An impressive sight from as far away as Reykjavík, from where it can be seen in clear weather, seeming to rise from the sea. Many prehistoric eruptions took place in the glacier-covered crater at its peak, and its slopes are covered with lava. The glacier is fairly easy to climb, about 4-6 hours to the highest peak, Þúfur. At the eastern base is a Tourist Association hut, now in ruins. The glacier dominates the area, the western part of which is covered with lava and known as “under the glacier”. Adorable cottage in amazing location

We had a wonderful stay at the Jules Verne cottage. The property was clean, comfortable, and well furnished. The location is amazing and the views are beautiful. Owners were communicative and easy to reach with questions. Highly recommend!

Fantastic cottage, beautiful location

We had a great stay here. The cottage is very cosy and equipped with everything you need. From the door are beautiful walks along the coast to Arnastapi, or the national park is only a couple of minutes away. Gestur and Berglind were very helpful before we arrived and explained everything we needed to know. I would definitely recommend coming here!

Nice place

All in all, a very nice place to stay. Comfortable and a wonderful location. Only improvements I’d suggest are to have paper towels on hand to aid in cleaning at checkout. Kitchen stove wasn’t very clean when we arrived and someone used the best pot under the kitchen sink drain which has a slow leak. Bathroom floor was not clean when we arrived either.

Nice option in snaefellsnes peninsula

Cute little house, fully self contained with a great kitchen. The TV room is so cozy. Comfy beds. It is in a group of similar houses, so there are other people around, but the area is very quiet. Had fish soup and coffee daily at the little cafe at the old "harbor". Beautiful hiking along the cliffs easy walk from the house.

Fantastic Stay in Hellnar

We enjoyed 3 nights in this lovely house with a fantastic view over the sea and church! The House is so lovely and it has everything you need! There is a huge dvd collection, wifi, and a such a nice reading corner with a huge coach and awesome view:) There is a lot you can do, we willfor sure come again, maybe more than 3 nights. The contact with hosts was very friendly and helpful. Thanks a lot!

Magical location

The Jules Verne cottage is perfectly located, as it offers panoramic ocean views and is near all the major sites that makes West Iceland so special. Highly recommend a stay here. Please be aware that the steps leading up to the two bedrooms are practically vertical and more akin to climbing a ladder. Younger children and older adults could very much struggle to ascend and descend. That being said, everything else about the cottage is perfect and I felt very fortunate to have stayed there.

Cute and Cozy

It was rainy and overcast while we were there and the northern lights were not to be. But, my husband and I did enjoy the relaxing on the couch and curling up and watching a movie after spending the days driving around sight seeing. Everything we needed was there except paper towels. It is a drive to get to a store so make sure you have what you need when you arrive. There are several houses around this place, so not secluded. There was only one family there while we were there and we really did not hear them. Overall, the place is very cute, cozy and perfect for our adventure on the Sneafellness Peninsula .

Icelandic Gem!

The Jules Verne Cottage is truly one of those places that make you feel like you never want to leave! The views from the cottage are breathtaking and the cottage itself is tastefully decorated. It has all the comforts of home. You get the feeling when you are there that the owners have thought of everything you might need during your stay. The cottage is located in a great area for exploring the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It was a pleasure working with Gestur. He promplty answered any questions that I had via email. I have so many great memories of Iceland and the Jules Verne cottage will be one of those great Icelandic memories. Thank you Gestur for sharing your cottage with us!

This property is misleading the customers. A hot tub is listed as one of the amenities, in reality there's none. The house is not as private and peaceful as it is shown in the pictures, it is a part of cottage complex and neighboring houses are just a few meters away. The property was not clean upon arrival. There were safety and privacy issues. The guys who stayed in the next house were messing with my car and later same day a housekeeper from that house was circling the house I was staying in with a loud snowmobile. I need to also mention parking problems. No one bothered to clear the snow from the parking lot and the driveway, so people had park on the main road and carry the suitcases and groceries all the way from there in knee deep snow. Hot water is very limited in this house. If you do the laundry and wash the dishes using hot water, you might not have enough of it for a shower. I can understand that hot water in remote location might be limited, but the owners should have warned about it in advance.

Nice cottage, but demanding owners

We enjoyed the stay in this little cottage, but did not appreciate the way we were treated by the owners. First of all we did not like the fact that we had to pay the full rent before receiving the rental agreement which included several terms and conditions. One of them was that we were obliged to clean the cottage "spotlessly clean" before departure. That meant that on departure day we spent the whole morning cleaning the house! Had we known that in advance, we absolutely would not have rented this house because we prefer to pay for cleaning instead of spending half a day of our holiday doing it ourselves, changing bed linen, washing the linen and towels, etc. We also did not like the numerous warnings about the precious things in the house. There was even a folder with photos of objects the presence of which we were supposed to check upon arrival! Our advice to the owners is: if you rent out a house do not put precious paintings and other things in it that could get damaged in the first place. And if you treat your PAYING guests like potential thieves do not engage in this business at all. Keep the house for yourself and forget about the income!

The property is absolutely beautiful, could not ask for a better location. It was clean and had plenty of space. The restaurants near by were very good and the host was very quick to respond when I needed help with something. My only disappointment was there was not a bathtub like the pictures showed. host was very quick to respond

Schönes Haus in toller Lage

Superschönes Haus, total toll gelegen. Alles wie auf den Fotos zu erkennen. Bad war nicht ganz sauber, aber das liegt ja an den Vormietern. Küche gut nutzbar, gemütliches Sofa. Da ein Bett nur 1,40m breit ist, fanden wir vor Ort, dass das Haus besser für max. 3 Personen gegeeignet ist. Danke für diesen schönen Ort!

Amazing!

This lovely place in Hellnar was a wonderful restful place to make our home base during a few days on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. The cottage is lovely and clean and well-equipped. It was easy to explore the national park and there is a lovely hiking trail to the next town Arnarstappi. We cooked at home a few nights and had an amazing dinner at the local hotel (just a short walk down the road). Definitely would stay here again!

Schöne Lage.

Gut ausgestattete Ferienwohnung mit ausreichendem Platz und schöner Aussicht. Die Schlafzimmer sind im Obergeschoss und durch eine Treppe (steil) zu erreichen. Die Ferienwohnung wird vom Vormieter gereinigt: es müssen am Ende des Aufenthaltes die Betten neu bezogen werden und die gebrauchte Wäsche muss gewaschen und dann in den Trockner gegeben werden. Hierzu bekommt man vom Vermieter genaue Informationen.
