Slovenia is full of remarkable places to visit. A few hours northeast of Ljubljana, the capital, lies a region of alpine valleys that will take your breath away. I took this photo shortly after sunrise on the ridge between two of those valleys.

Having your own set of wheels certainly makes getting around this area a lot easier. For accommodation I'd recommend Luce, a small town a stone's throw away from the action, where there are a few options.

The trails can be hard to locate and very slippery when covered with snow so tread carefully or, preferably, wait until it disappears.

"The place was great. Very spacious, friendly staff and quiet as it is out in the woods. Very nice big breakfast. My only complaint was I made It to check in close to 9:30 and it was completely dark and no way to get in. "I would not recommend this place. Receptionist met us when we arrived. Told us there was staffing issues at their hotel in Blef. Gave us the code to the front doorand a number to call for emergencies. We went to dinner, came back at 930pm. There was not lights on inside or outside the hotel. "Perfect for a one night pre departure stay. 5 - 10min from the airport. There is a petrol station minutes away convenient should you need to fill up your hire car before hand. Rooms were a good size with comfortable beds. For me the outstanding feature was the quality of the food in the restaurant. This was also replicated at breakfast. All staff polite & professional. "
