The best area to stay in Madawala is generally in the surrounding region of Kandy, specifically near the Udawatta Kele Sanctuary or along the Mahaweli River, as Madawala itself is a smaller town without a dedicated tourist district. For travelers looking for a serene and nature-focused experience, the areas immediately bordering the Udawatta Kele Sanctuary offer a peaceful retreat. You'll find accommodations located in lush greenery, often with views of the forest, providing a quiet environment ideal for relaxation. This area is particularly well-suited for couples seeking a tranquil escape and opportunities for birdwatching or gentle walks.Alternatively, hotels situated along the Mahaweli River, a short drive from Madawala, provide a different but equally appealing environment. These properties often feature river views and can offer activities like boating or simply enjoying the riverside scenery.

The best time to visit Madawala is during the dry season, which runs from December to March, and also from June to September.During these months, you'll experience pleasant weather with less rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty and cultural sites. The temperatures are generally warm and comfortable for outdoor activities like visiting tea plantations or hiking. This period is particularly good for travelers who want to ensure their plans aren't disrupted by heavy rains. For those interested in festivals and local events, planning a trip around the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April or the Esala Perahera in Kandy (usually July/August) can offer a richer cultural experience, though these times might fall outside the driest periods.
