They also have a great beach area with staff cleaning any seaweed that floats to shore. Service for drinks was hit or miss and unfortunately we had a miscommunication of sorts with a staff member which made the day unpleasant. Staff at the coffee shop were fantastic! Food was okay. We had been to this resort 3 years prior and the Specialty Restaurants offered a better menu back then than they do now. The room service menu is also lacking and we felt the resort cleanliness overall has also gone downhill since the last time we visited this resort. If we had to choose between this resort and the sister Riu Palace Kukulkan Adults All Inclusive we would choose Riu Palace Kukulkan. The staff was great, they cleaned our room everyday! The place overall was well kept and very clean. The food was ok, nothing really special that stood out to us. It’s right off the beach but we were not able to get in as the red flags were up during our entire stay. The infinity pool was nice as they had a small landing for the kids to play in as well. They also had a kids pool with slides in the front of the hotel and a kids area for them to play. Overall we enjoyed our time there. At first glance this place looks great, ocean views and modern facilities, but once you get here, you realize you’ve been tricked. Beach: Looking to swim in the ocean water? Sorry, this resort isn’t for you. The water is covered in seaweed and is filthy brown. The pictures are extremely misleading. Pool: Want a nice pool since you can’t swim in the ocean? Sorry, this resort isn’t for you. The pool looks beautiful and has potential, but the way they have it set up completely messes up the experience. Most of the pool is blocked off for pool activities so the general public can’t access it. The area you get to swim in goes no deeper than 1-2 feet and is filled with people because it’s a small section. The activities are reservation only and it’s impossible to get one. Food: Want good food and access to the restaurants? Sorry, this resort isn’t for you. It is literally impossible to get a reservation at the restaurants. I was here for 5 days and could not get a reservation at any point. You are forced to eat at the buffet, and in most resorts, this would be a minor trade off, but here it isn’t. The buffet is lacking variety and quality. And you are stuck waiting on line for 20-45 minutes just to eat there at all times. Relaxation: Want to relax on vacation and enjoy the nice weather in peace? Sorry, this resort isn’t for you. Loudest place alive and you will get a headache. Excellent communication with staff, room was cleaned daily and turndown service was great. Loved the staff, cocktail making on the beach, bingo and water aerobics were my favourite and watching volleyball was fun. Food was excellent, only disappointed once. Evening entertainment always entertained! They will make any drink for you, you can ask to order off the menu. The seaweed was an issue, but the resort is so wonderful we didn't miss the beach that much. Mark, Fernanda, Vanessa and "SoChill" all went out of their way to make our trip wonderful. We coordinated and paid $160 for a shuttle through the hotel to be picked up from airport. We were never picked up when we arrived. After 2 hours of waiting they just apologized and we got our own taxi. You would think they would give us a room upgrade or comp something for the being left at airport but no. Just apologized and said it was their fault. The room had a musty dirty smell. The hotel food was mediocre. There was only one bar open in the whole hotel after 5pm. Drinks were watered down. The gym was open 24 hours which was great but a lot of equipment was broken for our entire stay. The entertainment team was the highlight they were very friendly and fun. We extended our vacation in playa del Carmen by 3 days if this hotel treated us better we would have just stayed there. But decided to go across the street to Hyatt Vivid and what a night and day difference. Place was phenomenal. Hyatt is more expensive but absolutely worth every penny."
