Once you've visited all of the well-known places in Los Alamos, there's loads more to see in the surrounding area. Pick up the keys to a rental car, pack your bags in the trunk and take to the open road. These are some drives we're confident you'll love:

• Make tracks to Chincha Alta for a fantastic sightseeing adventure. Around 110 miles from Los Alamos, it has tons of inspiring sights, including Plaza de Armas.
• Next stop? Consider Huacho, which is around 80 miles away. Plaza del Sol Mall is one local highlight you shouldn't miss.
• Paracas National Reservation is situated 150 miles from Los Alamos and is one of the region's most gorgeous nature spots. Go for a walk around and enjoy the fresh air here.

If you don't hold a driver's license issued in Peru, then you may need to get an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. You should also note that if an IDP is required, it won't be valid on its own. You'll have to show your current license your passport and other forms of identification as well. Lastly, it's important that the credit card you used to book the rental vehicle matches the name on your license and passport. A few other things to note for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You need to be 25 or over in most places to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it may still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of vehicles you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the rules and regulations before getting behind the wheel. Usually, you can't cross country borders, drive onto ferries or on off-road areas with a rental car.
