Historical Highlights

The 1959 inaugural Daytona 500 wowed crowds with a photo finish, and since then, the race has had many memorable moments at the Daytona International Speedway. In 1976, Richard Petty and David Pearson crashed coming out of Turn 4 on the final lap, but Pearson kept his car rolling by kicking it into neutral and slowly inching across the checkered line to victory over his stalled-out rival. Other amazing victories include when Richard Petty won his 7th Daytona 500 to become “The King,” when Bobby Allison and Davey Allison duked it out on the final lap to end 1-2 for father and son, when Trevor Bayne took the race at only 20 years and 1 day old, and, of course, when the legendary Dale “The Intimidator” Earnhardt added a trip to Gatorade Victory Lane to his hall-of-fame resume. Don’t be left in the dust as motorsports fans race to secure their tickets to the next historic moment at the Daytona International Speedway.
