Come From Away is a Canadian musical that’s based on events in Newfoundland’s town of Gander following the events of September 11th. 38 planes, carrying 7,000 passengers, were ordered to land at Gander International Airport. The musical is based on stranded travelers, and actual Gander residents who housed and fed the travelers. When the quant small town becomes unequipped to handle the massive influx of travelers, the residents of Gander spring into action. The musical is a constant reminder of the ability for human kindness in even the most turbulent and trying times. Come From Away has received numerous awards and accolades, having been nominated for, and winning a Tony Award in 2017 for "Best Direction of a Musical" and in 2019 the Laurence Olivier Award for "Best New Musical.
