Actor, writer, and comedian Jerry Seinfeld has been cracking up audiences for more than 40 years, both on the stage and on the screen. Getting his start at open mic nights in New York City, he later went on to achieve success with frequent appearances on talk shows like Late Night with David Letterman and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. He was thrust into the international spotlight in 1989 with the premiere of the sitcom Seinfeld, which became the most popular sitcom on American TV by its fourth season. Today, Seinfeld—named by Comedy Central as the 12th Greatest Stand-Up Comedian of All Time—continues to bring his trademark observational comedy to stages across the country. Born in New York City, Jerry Seinfeld first became interested in comedy after briefs stints in college productions. Following graduation in 1976, he tried out at an open mic night, which eventually led to an appearance in a Rodney Dangerfield special on HBO. By 1980, he had landed a small recurring role on the sitcom Benson and, a year later, made his first appearance on The Tonight Show. Working with fellow comedian Larry David, Seinfeld spent several years developing his eponymous sitcom, which ran for 9 seasons and ended in 1998. The show has since become considered one of the greatest and most influential sitcoms ever made and was voted by the Writers Guild of America as the second-best written TV series of all time. Following the show, Seinfeld returned to standup comedy, appeared as himself on numerous other TV shows, and created the web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, which can still be seen on Netflix today. In 2017, Netflix also released the special Jerry Before Seinfeld, which follows the comedian as he returns to the comedy club that started his whole career. Throughout 2018, you can see Seinfeld for yourself as he tours the country to cities such as Philadelphia, Boston, and Las Vegas.
