After missing the NHL Playoffs 2017, the Los Angeles Kings are ready to make a run in the postseason. Unlike other teams that joined the league in the 1967 NHL expansion, the Kings were immediately successful with 2 consecutive playoff appearances. The 1970s saw a string of failures and finally successes with the addition of the “Triple Crown Line,” which included Charlie Simmer, Dave Taylor, and Marcel Dionne. In 1982, the team participated in one of hockey’s most epic games, the so-called “Miracle on Manchester,” in which the team came back from a 5-goal deficit in the 3rd period to win in overtime. The decade also saw the dramatic addition of Wayne Gretzky, who was wooed away from the Edmonton Oilers with a king’s ransom of nearly triple his original salary. After Gretzky left LA, the team saw some tough times, but they rebounded with Stanley Cup victories in the 2011–12 and 2013–14 seasons.
The 2022–23 Los Angeles Kings season will be the 56th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 5, 1967. This will be the first season without longtime winger Dustin Brown on the roster as he announced his retirement on April 28th, 2022, following the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs. This will be the first full season with the arena being named Crypto.com Arena. The Kings begin the season at home versus the Vegas Golden Knights on October 11, at Crypto.com Arena as part of a two-game homestand with the Kings hosting the Seattle Kraken two nights later.
