Born in Ario de Rosales, Michoacán, Mexico, on December 29, 1959, Marco Antonio Solís embarked on his musical career at the age of 12 when he formed the group Los Hermanitos Solís with his family. In 1975, he became the lead singer and guitarist for the band Los Bukis, who are credited with creating the grupera genre of Mexican pop music. For the band’s first US tour, the group had to sneak across the border illegally, and this story, in musical form, became one of Los Bukis’ earliest hits titled “Los Alambrados.” After nearly 2 decades of success, the band split up, and Solís decided to pursue a solo career. Without Solís, Los Bukis regrouped as Los Mismos and has enjoyed success. On his own, Marco Antonio Solís has continued as a superstar of Latin pop and recently sang a duet with Angélica Vale titled “La Llorona” for the award-winning Disney movie Coco.
