San Antonio Spurs Ticket Information

First the Dallas Chaparrals and then the Texas Chaparrals, the team now known as the San Antonio Spurs has a history dating back to 1967 as one of the most success clubs in the NBA. Though they haven’t always been a top performer, the Spurs have an impressive resume that includes 22 division titles, 6 conference championships, 5 NBA Finals victories, and the highest winning percentage of any active team in NBA history. With those kinds of stats, it’s no surprise that fans clamor to get their hands on affordable tickets to see the team take to the court at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

American Basketball Association

Beginning as the Dallas Chaparrals in 1967, the San Antonio Spurs were one of the original teams to play in the inaugural season of the American Basketball Association. Unfortunately, the first few years saw only moderate success and failing fan interest, even after several attempts to rebrand. By 1972, most of the owners wanted out, but thanks to a group of businessmen who dared to take a chance, the Spurs eventually found themselves in San Antonio. It’s a decision those businessmen never regretted, as the city welcomed the team with open arms and never looked back.

Following the ABA’s 1976 merger with the NBA, the Spurs quickly proved their worth in the face of skepticism regarding the talent of the ABA. Led by the legendary Hall of Famer George Gervin, the Spurs would go on to win 5 division titles in their first 7 seasons with the NBA and, though they never took a national title, earn the fanatic fan base that they still have today.

The next 14 years were a rollercoaster of highs and lows, including a rough patch that nearly threatened to relocate the team. But in 1997, San Antonio got the turnaround it deserved when the Spurs signed All-American Tim Duncan, who emerged as a dominant force during his rookie season. The MVP would go on to play his entire career with the team, working alongside other powerhouse players like All-Stars David Robinson, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginóbili. During Duncan’s 19-year tenure with the team, the Spurs won 13 division titles, appeared in every NBA playoff, and took all of their NBA Championships to date. In fact, both the 1998 and 2015 Spurs are considered by basketball analysts to be among the top 10 teams in NBA history.
