America's Most Successful Band

Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon all met when they were recruited to Linda Ronstadt’s new band. The four musicians signed to Asylum Records in 1971 without an official band name. Their eventual name, “Eagles”, was conceived during a peyote-influenced trip to the Mojave Desert. Their first self-titled album, featuring the track “Take It Easy”,  was released with the assistance of producer Glyn Johns, and resulted as a breakthrough success. Since then, the Eagles have continuously pumped out charting singles and albums. In 1976, the band released their first compilation album titled Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975), which became the highest selling album in the United States with an estimated 38 million copies sold. The following album, Hotel California, was creatively draining for the Eagles, but resulted in the band’s signature track that the majority of Americans know and love, “Hotel California”. Their 1977 album The Long Run was negatively received by critics, but still was a hit commercially. Tensions were rising quickly at this period, and the 1980 performance in Long Beach, California cemented the band’s obvious need for a hiatus. The band reassembled in 1994 to perform their release of Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles from the previous year. Frey has stated that they “never broke up, we just took a 14-year vacation”. Don Felder’s removal from the Eagles resulted in years of legal issues and another hiatus for the band. 2007 brought fans Long Road Out of Eden, the Eagles’ first album of original material since 1979. They embarked on a massive world tour to support the album, with supporting acts from the Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban along the way. A few years after the release of a career spanning documentary in 2013, Glenn Frey passed away from health issues. Glenn Frey’s son, Deacon Frey, and Vince Gill were added to the lineup to continue the legacy of the great Eagles.
