Motley Crue History

Bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, guitarist Mick Mars and lead singer Vince Neil came together in 1981 to form Motley Crue. wearing their spiked stage costumes through airport customs and throwing a television set out of a Sheraton Hotel window were only a couple of the PR stunts staged by the band to get public exposure. They became rapidly successful in the United States, and toured with Ozzy Osbourne after the release of their second album. After an accident causing the death of Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas Dingley, Neil dedicated the band’s third album, Theatre of Pain, to the drummer. The album started a glam-metal phase for the band. The beginning of their career was filled with alcohol abuse and drug addiction, but the peak of their popularity came after finding sobriety and releasing their fifth album, Dr. Feelgood. The album reached the top of the charts and stayed there for 114 weeks after its release. Neil left the band in 1992 and was replaced by John Corabi for a short period of time. Motley Crue went through years of turmoil till 2004, when it was announced that Neil and Sixx were back in the studio and a reunion tour would commence. 2006 brought their Route of All Evil Tour, which was co-headlined with Aerosmith. After 2010, Motley Crue went on a string of tours with other legendary bands like Poison, New York Dolls andKiss. In 2015, the band signed a cessation of touring agreement, preventing them from touring under the Motley Crue name. Though the cessation was unbroken, Neil and Sixx announced in 2018 that the band was working on new material. The songs were released for the movie adaption of Motley Crue’s autobiography, The Dirt.
