One of the first teams to bring pro baseball to the Pacific coast, the Los Angeles Angels have built a true California dream. Tickets to an Angels game let you see one of the most popular events in Orange County as the pride of Anaheim pursue their next spot in the MLB Playoffs.
The Angels got their start in 1961, when rodeo star and singing cowboy Gene Autry bought the rights to the old Pacific Coast League team and brought them into the majors. The first expansion team to form on the West Coast, the Angels gave the American League a presence in California and made Los Angeles into a 2-team city. The team’s only relocation was a trip down I-5 to their current home in Anaheim, which still triggered a decades-long struggle over just what to call the home team.
Whether they played as the California Angels, the Anaheim Angels, or the court-approved Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the Halos became a sensation. The team enlisted stars like Nolan Ryan, Don Baylor, and Reggie Jackson and made it to the playoffs 3 times before the 1990s, but fell short of the pennant each time. A new Disney-backed ownership gave the team a Hollywood movie in the 1990s ahead of a real World Series win in 2002.
Fittingly for a team that’s built its whole history in SoCal, the Angels know how to put on a show. Whether you’re watching a game under the big A at Angel Stadium, following their local rivalry with the Los Angeles Dodgers, or watching them vie for their next pennant against the Texas Rangers or the New York Yankees, there’s nothing quite like seeing the fireworks and joining the crowd for a game. Pick up your Angels tickets and try out one of the best things to do on this side of Los Angeles as they try to win another one for the cowboy.
The team was originally founded in 1961 as an expansion team and called the Los Angeles Angels. Soon after they became the California Angels, Anaheim Angels, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and now back to the Los Angeles Angels.
The Angels team mascot is an anthropomorphic monkey named "Rally Monkey"
Yes, in 2002 the Los Angeles Angels defeated the San Francisco Giants to clinch their first, and only World Series title.
The Angels were originally owned by "Singing Cowboy" Gene Autry
