The US Open Tennis Championships is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually in Queens, New York. Since 1987, the US Open has been chronologically the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year. The other three are the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. The US Open starts on the last Monday of August and continues for two weeks, with the middle weekend coinciding with the US Labor Day holiday. The tournament consists of five primary championships: Men's and Women's Singles, Men's and Women's Doubles, and mixed doubles along with events for senior, junior, and wheelchair players. Since 1978, the tournament has been played on acrylic hardcourts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York . The US Open is owned and organized by the United States Tennis Association (USTA), a non-profit organization, and the chairperson of the US Open is Patrick Galbraith. Revenue from ticket sales, sponsorships, and television contracts is used to develop tennis in the United States.

The 2022 US Open will be the 143rd consecutive edition of the tournament and will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. The tournament is played on hard courts and takes place over a series of 15 courts with Laykold surface, including the three existing main showcourts – Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium and Grandstand.
The tournament is an event run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is part of the 2022 ATP Tour and the 2023 WTA Tour calendars under the Grand Slam category. The tournament will consist of both Men's and Women's singles and doubles draws, as both doubles draws will return to standard 64 players, as singles players will remain in standard 128 person format in each category. There are also singles and doubles events for both boys and girls (players under 18), which are part of the Grade A category of tournaments.
The US Open is known for its unique traditions, such as players having to pass through the "Player Wall" to enter the court, and the playing of "New York, New York" after each men's singles final.
The "Big Apple Slam" refers to a player winning all four Grand Slam tournaments in a calendar year, which includes the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
