Zac Brown Band History

By the time Zachary Alexander Brown was 19, he was touring all around the Southeast of the United States. At the time, Zac Brown Band consisted of Brown on acoustic guitar and vocals, Marcus Petruska on drums, and Jacob Lawson on bass. Band members gradually came flowing in, like multi-instrumentalist Coy Bowles and violinist Jimmy De Martini, as the band grew in popularity. Although there was some legal trouble with Brown’s debut single, “Chicken Fried” eventually was released within The Foundation under Atlantic Records in 2008. The song became the first debut single to reach the No. 1 spot on country charts in the same month since “I Loved Her First” by Heartland in 2006. In 2009, Marshall Tucker Band member Clay Cook joined the Zac Brown Band. Cook had graduated from high school with Brown, and had previously collaborated with artists like John Mayer and Shawn Mullins. Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters produced The Grohl Sessions, Vol. 1 in 2013. Their 2015 album, Jekyll + Hyde, was released under Big Machine Records. It featured prominent styles from rock, EDM, reggae, and traditional pop, rather than just being a country album. Their latest album, Welcome Home, was released in May of 2017. Zac Brown Band appeared in the CMT Crossroads with Shawn Mendes, which aired in October of 2018. Over the years, Zac Brown Band has won a number of Grammy Awards, like Best New Artist in 2010, Best Country Collaboration with Vocals in 2011, and Best Country Album in 2013.
