Spring Break Getaways

Sandy beaches and good times await

It’s time to pack your bags, gather your family, and head out for a well-deserved break. Spring break, that is. These destinations have the perfect combination of food, culture, and family-friendly activities to satisfy every member of your crew. (As with all trips, remember to check state and city guidelines regarding COVID-19 and quarantining requirements before you depart.)

1. Montauk, New York
Montauk is one of the most popular beach destinations in the northeast, thanks to its proximity to New York City (about a three-hour drive or train ride). It’s particularly lovely for a spring trip, when you can spread out your towel without the huge crowds of summer. Set up camp at The Surf Lodge, a motel-like property where you can access your room directly and skip lobbies and common areas, which is great for social distancing.

2. The Grand Canyon, Arizona
There’s no wrong time to visit the Grand Canyon, from the beautiful snowy vistas of winter to the ample hiking trails of summer. But spring is the perfect season that allows you to soak up the natural wonder without quite as many selfie-taking tourists as you’ll find during peak travel times. For something extra memorable, try a rim-to-rim hike if your family is feeling athletic.

3. Nashville, Tennessee
Despite its plethora of late-night honky-tonks and moonshine bars, Nashville is a wonderful place to take the entire family for spring break. The weather from March through May is much more bearable than during summer, allowing visitors to enjoy outdoor spots like the Parthenon or Nashville Zoo. Be sure not to miss the indoor fun as well, whether it is upping your collective IQ at the Adventure Science Center or eating the city’s famous hot chicken at Hattie B's.

4. Laguna Beach, California
With its vast array of natural beauty and great restaurants and hotels (and, of course, beaches), Laguna Beach is one of the best places to spend spring break in California. Families will love picnicking and playing volleyball on Main Beach, while adults can spend some alone time at one of the town's many spas.

5. Asheville, North Carolina
Nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is easily one of the most scenic, activity-packed cities on the East Coast. The spring weather means you can start to enjoy the surrounding mountain trails and vistas or spend a leisurely day walking around the downtown area. If you need to duck indoors for an hour or two, you’ll be spoiled with tons of great art galleries, breweries, and restaurants. For accommodations that overflow with local charm, make The Foundry Hotel your home base—one you just might not want to leave.
