Not having clear ground rules can lead to awkward\u00a0conversations, disagreements, and in the worst-case scenario,\u00a0someone spending\u00a0more\u00a0than they\u00a0planned.\u00a0Travelers overwhelmingly agree that the\u00a0most important piece of travel etiquette\u00a0when choosing a vacation rental is splitting expenses\u00a0evenly\u00a0\u2014\u00a0from the cost of the rental to shared expenses like groceries.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;study&nbsp;also&nbsp;revealed&nbsp;travelers\u2019 varying&nbsp;preferences about&nbsp;how to divide costs fairly:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Half of\u00a0respondents\u00a0believe guests who\u00a0arrive a day late or leave a day earlier than the rest of the group\u00a0should pay a smaller portion.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>44% of people think you should pay less if you\u00a0must\u00a0share a room if others\u00a0don\u2019t.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Almost 40% of Gen\u00a0Zers\u00a0travelers believe those traveling further should pay less of the shared trip costs.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vrbo\u2019s\u00a0tips for\u00a0cost-sharing (and\u00a0savings):<\/strong>\u00a0Agree on a budget per person before booking accommodations,\u00a0and collectively decide if\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0comfortable splitting per person, per bedroom, or per night.\u00a0Vrbo\u00a0always displays the full price,\u00a0including fees, so there are no surprises about the total cost of the vacation rental.
