One of the most interesting facts about Bali<\/a>\u00a0is that it is an island with a Hindu population in a country of Muslims. Despite the fact that their religious customs and their culture are in contrast to the rest of Indonesia, the Balinese have managed to maintain their traditions for thousands of years. That is when Hinduism was first brought to the island from India.<\/p>\n

The island is small, roughly half the size of Hawaii Island<\/a>\u00a0(aka, the Big Island) and one of more than 17,000 in the Indonesian archipelago. Due to the crowded roads, however, it\u2019s a bit more difficult to traverse than Hawaii Island. That\u2019s OK, because it means you have more time to enjoy the beautiful coastline and terraced rice fields, one of which was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012.<\/p>\n

Whether you\u2019re going for its natural beauty or for something more adventurous\u2014such as hiking Mount Batur for the sunrise<\/a>\u2014you\u2019ll be touched by Balinese hospitality and will likely\u00a0plan a return trip<\/a>\u00a0before you\u2019ve even left the island.
