Because there are so many options, we\u2019ve put together a short list of must-see locations along the Pacific Northwest\u2019s dramatic coast.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5; font-family: Helvetica;\">We suggest you make <\/span><a style=\"line-height: 1.5;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Seattle.d178307.Destination-Travel-Guides\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Seattle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5; font-family: Helvetica;\"> your kicking-off point. After you\u2019ve had some time to enjoy the Emerald city, you can take a ferry across Puget Sound to Bainbridge Island, drive through the lush Olympic Peninsula, and be at the Washington coast within just a few hours.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Olympic National Park<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Located on the Olympic Peninsula west of Seattle and Puget Sound, Olympic National Park offers 73-miles of rugged coastline, much of which is surrounded by dense old growth forests.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5; font-family: Helvetica;\"> The coast also has sea stacks, which are blocks of erosion-resistant rock isolated from the land by sea.<br \/> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">When it comes to accommodations, if you want to be right in the thick of things, consider the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Olympic-National-Park-Hotels-Kalaloch-Lodge.h172862.Hotel-Information\">Kalaloch Lodge<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">, an ideal spot to hunker down and watch storms roll in. If you head further south, you\u2019ll find both Iron Springs Resort and Seabrook, a planned community with old school charm and beautiful, modern rental properties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"small-width-image-container lansdscape-45a935a7-50ee-63e1-bbde-ff000073f150\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/default-source\/user-no-vacation-required\/coast-content-[size_512x290].jpg\" id=\"landscape-45a935a7-50ee-63e1-bbde-ff000073f150\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Title\">Easy access to the beach from the road<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Long Beach<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">About 28 miles of sandy beach make the aptly named Long Beach one of the longest sand beaches in the world. But the area offers more than just seemingly endless stretches of sand; it is rich with national history. For instance, the peninsula is the westernmost terminus of the Lewis and Clark expedition, and home to Cape Disappointment, one of a series of Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Parks.\u00a0 It&#8217;s also home to the International Kite Festival every August.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5; font-family: Helvetica;\"><br \/> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Cannon Beach\/Seaside<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">After you cross the 4.1-mile long Astoria Bridge, you can visit Fort Stevens State Park and check out the wreck of the Peter Iredale, a four-masted steel barque sailing vessel that ran aground in 1906. You\u2019ll then arrive at Seaside, one of the Oregon coast\u2019s most visited beach destinations. The classic beach town is popular for its razor clams. If you\u2019ve never been clamming (and don\u2018t mind getting really sandy), you should give it a shot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5; font-family: Helvetica;\">Just south of Seaside is Cannon Bach, home to Haystack Rock, a giant (and iconic) sea stack. The town is also well known for being an artist community; galleries abound.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5; font-family: Helvetica;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; border: medium none; padding: 0px;\">\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5; font-family: Helvetica;\">Viewfinder Tip:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Don\u2019t come to this area anticipating California-like beaches. Expect milder weather, colder water, and rougher waves.<br \/> <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Florence<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">This former mill town is at the north end of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, in an ideal area to zoom around in dune buggies, go sandboarding (yes, that\u2019s a thing), or just relax and watch the sun set over the Pacific Ocean.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">About 60-miles north of Florence, make sure to stop at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Devils-Punch-Bowl-State-Natural-Area-Hotels.0-l6296197-0.Travel-Guide-Filter-Hotels\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Devil\u2019s Punch Bowl State Park<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"> to see the sea roll into a collapsed sea cave. Make sure to stop by Sea Lion Caves to see hundreds of Steller sea lions laze about.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Also, if you\u2019ve not yet had clam chowder at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.moschowder.com\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Mo\u2019s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\"> on your way down the coast, Florence is your last chance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica;\">Now that you\u2019ve explored a good portion of this extraordinary coastline, you can head even further south to Gold Beach at the mouth of the mighty Rogue River. When you\u2019ve had your fill of sand and sea, pop over to I-5 and zip back to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Seattle-Hotels.d178307.Travel-Guide-Hotels\">Seattle<\/a> for your flight home. Consider keeping a leisurely pace by breaking up the 8-hour drive with a stop in our old hometown, Portland.<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5; font-family: Helvetica;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p
