Call me crazy, but I am one of those people who don\u2019t mind the city during the winter months. Granted, the snow can be annoying, and yes, the city loses a bit of its joyful luster once all the holiday festivities are over, but there are some pretty fun things that happen around the city to make up for the short, cold days till spring.<\/p>\n<p>Here are my five favorite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/New-York.d178293.Destination-Travel-Guides\">New York City<\/a>\u00a0winter events that I look forward to every year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nyrr.org\/races-and-events\/2015\/nyrr-midnight-run\">Midnight Run in Central Park<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">OK, technically this still falls under \u201choliday,\u201d but it\u2019s pretty much the event that ends all the holiday events for the year. It started out as this little five-kilometer thing that a few people did for fun in Central Park, while all the overly ambitious folks were over at Times Square, but now it\u2019s turned into a huge party. You have to purchase tickets to run the event, but a lot of times, I just like to go to watch and cheer on the runners, especially since they are often wearing fun costumes and there is music to keep the energy high. It\u2019s one of the most fun\u2014if not healthiest\u2014ways to welcome in the New Year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"small-width-image-container lansdscape-fa5f3ca7-50ee-63e1-bbde-ff000073f150\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/images\/default-source\/user-carol-cain\/nyccontent5294415641_96f11731bf_o-[size_512x290].jpg\" id=\"landscape-fa5f3ca7-50ee-63e1-bbde-ff000073f150\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Title\">Winter is long, but not too bad in NYC<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nycgo.com\/restaurant-week\"><strong>NYC Restaurant Week<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"line-height: 14.7727px; font-size: 10px;\">.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Every year, twice a year, we have the pleasure of eating in New York City\u2019s best restaurants at a very discounted price. In winter,\u00a0Restaurant Week takes place around mid-January. Participating restaurants offer three-course meals and guests get to experience eateries that can easily break the bank on any normal day, which means reservations are a must!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/betterchinatown.com\/\" style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">The Lunar New Year Festival<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">On any given day of the year, a visit to Chinatown is a wonderful cultural experience. But the Lunar New Year Festival and parade is a must-see. It takes place every year in February and is kicked off by a fireworks ceremony and cultural festival which take place on the first day of the lunar calendar. The streets fill with color and sounds that celebrate the Chinese heritage and community in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/New-York-Hotels.d178293.Travel-Guide-Hotels\">New York City<\/a>. There are performances and tons of food, and it\u2019s perfect for kids of all ages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nyicff.org\/\">New York International Children\u2019s Film Festival<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Over the period of four weekends, children who love films and their parents get to enjoy a festival dedicated exclusively to them. Over 100 films from 35 different countries are shown and\u2014though the films target a younger audience\u2014I have to admit I often find myself enjoying them just as much as my kids do! (The more adult-oriented New York Film Festival doesn\u2019t happen till the fall of every year.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px;\">Viewfinder Tip: Though Valentine\u2019s Day isn\u2019t huge for everyone, there are plenty of ways to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/viewfinder.expedia.com\/new-york-city\/winter-romance-in-new-york-city\">celebrate romance in New York City<\/a>\u00a0during winter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nybg.org\/exhibitions\/2015\/orchid-show\/\">The Orchid Show<\/a><\/strong>. It s<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">ounds like a spring event, but it\u2019s actually what I consider to be a winter event that reminds us that spring is just around the corner! This event is the first glimpse of the beauty that overtakes the city as the weather warms up. A day\u2019s visit is filled with opportunities to enjoy performances, orchid displays, hands-on demonstrations, and more. Plus, a visit to the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nybg.org\/\" style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">New York Botanical Garden<\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">, where the event is hosted, is a treat any time of year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Want more? There are ballet performances, theatrical shows, museum exhibits, and\u2014of course\u2014the NYC St. Patrick\u2019s Day Parade to keep you occupied.<\/p>\n<p>So when it comes to winter in <a href=\"https:\/\/thingstodo.expedia.com\/new-york-new-york-activities\/\">New York City<\/a>, I say come over and enjoy it. You might even find yourself too busy to notice the cold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What are your favorite winter
