{"id":20962,"date":"2016-12-06T17:00:32","date_gmt":"2016-12-06T17:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/?p=20962"},"modified":"2021-10-28T16:57:04","modified_gmt":"2021-10-28T16:57:04","slug":"3-generations-1-trip-yosemite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/3-generations-1-trip-yosemite\/","title":{"rendered":"3 generations, 1 trip to Yosemite"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As far as family vacations go, the one my girls and I took with grandpa to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Yosemite-National-Park.d180672.Destination-Travel-Guides\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yosemite National Park<\/a> this summer had all the makings of an <a href=\"https:\/\/viewfinder.expedia.com\/san-francisco\/national-parks-adventure-yosemite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">epic journey<\/a>. We saw wildlife and new parts of the park. We did art\u2014both in organized and unorganized fashion. We even discovered the most family-friendly hotel on Earth: The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Yosemite-National-Park-Hotels-Evergreen-Lodge-Yosemite.h8078322.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Evergreen Lodge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here, then, in no particular order, are some photographic recollections of the wonderful time we had. I consider myself lucky to continue to get to travel with these awesome kids and so many great family members.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-33971 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/20160414_165435-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"20160414_165435\" width=\"490\" height=\"276\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of our favorite things about Evergreen was the preponderance of playgrounds and family-oriented parks. We rented a two-bedroom cabin on the north side of the resort, and mere steps from our front door sat a giant climbing wall, a life-sized chess board, and a variety of other games. My father and my middle daughter, whom we\u2019ll call R, were enthralled by the chess.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-33972 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/20160414_180356-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"20160414_180356\" width=\"490\" height=\"276\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When we arrived at Evergreen, we had a general sense of how we wanted to spend our time in the park, but we hadn\u2019t really worked out driving distances and logistics. That explains why my dad and I broke into the whiskey and stayed up late the first night plotting our weekend. The experience reminded me of road trips of my childhood (minus the whiskey, of course), when Dad and Mom let me control the Triptik (remember those?!) in the backseat while we drove.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-33973 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/20160415_100626-1.jpg\" alt=\"20160415_100626-1\" width=\"487\" height=\"455\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The highpoint of our visit was a class the four of us took at the Yosemite Art Center. The subject: watercolor painting. All four of us got into the lesson, creating about a dozen pieces between us. When the rest of the group went out to paint Yosemite Falls plein air, we stayed back inside the center and painted scenes from the park that had been etched into our memories.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-33974 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/20160414_173917-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"20160414_173917\" width=\"490\" height=\"276\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the evenings at Evergreen, we hit the game room before and after dinner. During this time, L (my oldest) sharpened her skills at two games: shufflepuck and Connect Four. Suffice it to say the child gets her competitive spirit from me. And she\u2019s yet to lose a game.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-33978\" src=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/20160416_102341-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"20160416_102341\" width=\"490\" height=\"276\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were caterpillars everywhere when we visited, and the girls were obsessed. Every day, we took &#8220;caterpillar walks&#8221; to find the furry creatures and play with them.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-33975\" src=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/20160416_113937-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"20160416_113937\" width=\"490\" height=\"276\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our trip to the Hetch Hetchy section of the park was everything we hoped it would be: great views, an epic hike, and lots of shrieking in the tunnel you must hike to get to the waterfalls. The only downside: We forgot our headlamps, which meant sticking close together as we wandered into the darkness to guarantee we wouldn\u2019t get our boots soaked.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-33976 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/20160417_090321-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"20160417_090321\" width=\"490\" height=\"276\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once a month the Evergreen Lodge throws a big party with live music. We happened to be staying there that weekend. For the girls, this meant taking full advantage of the dance floor, running around like maniacs, and playing by the light of the disco ball. It was all fun and games until R ran into a bar table and nearly concussed herself.<\/p>\n<p>All told, our annual trip to Yosemite\u2014and our first-ever multigenerational trip\u2014was a wonderful success. We\u2019re already planning our return. You can bet Evergreen Lodge will play a role.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>What sort of experiences do you seek when you visit national
