The Big Island is where my family went on vacation. Maui is where I became friends with fellow Expedia Viewfinder bloggers. And Kaua\u02bbi is where my husband and I went on our honeymoon. Over the years, Hawai\u02bbi has wedged its way into my heart because it has always been the place where I go to spend time with the people I love. It truly is the perfect spot to get away from the chaos of regular life, reconnect with each other, and make memories together.<\/p>\n<p>Undoubtedly, Hawai\u02bbi is a well loved vacation destination and everyone has their own unique motives for going to the islands. Many go for relaxation, others go for adventure, and some go for meaningful cultural experiences. No matter what you are looking for, it is very likely that Hawai\u02bbi has something for you. To learn more about what Hawai\u02bbi has to offer, I used my smile (and my webcam) on Expedia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/discoveryouraloha.expedia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Discover Your Aloha<\/a> website to meet my guide through its facial recognition technology. I watched three short videos and then it matched me with an animal guide who paired my vacation style with the perfect trip itinerary. My guide is He\u2018e, which means \u2018Octopus\u2019 in Hawaiian, and they put together a list of activities that are built specifically for spending quality time together. I loved it!<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34761 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/hee.png\" alt=\"hee\" width=\"328\" height=\"406\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To better understand He\u2018e\u2019s generous spirit, today I will be interviewing Tara Jones, an Expedia Local Expert Concierge, who was born and raised in Kahaluu on Hawai\u02bbi Island, and was the 2014 Global Concierge of the Year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lauren LeBrun: <\/strong>Tell me a bit about He\u2018e?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tara Jones: <\/strong>He\u2018e represents Hawai\u02bbi\u2019s loving spirit. Many people refer to this guide as \u201cThe Loyal,\u201d since they are known for being a generous spirit who loves sharing experiences with those closest to you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LL: <\/strong>What\u2019s your personal take on how visitors can best experience the Hawaiian Islands?<\/p>\n<p><strong>TJ: <\/strong>First off, I believe that life is better when it\u2019s shared. The most memorable and meaningful moments of our lives usually involve our loved ones. Right? That\u2019s why I enjoy showing people how Hawai\u02bbi can bring people together. The islands offer many opportunities for bonding experiences. When I make recommendations, I don\u2019t just focus on things to do. I focus on things to share. With that said, I believe visitors can best experience Hawai\u02bbi by doing activities that bring them together in one of the most beautiful places on earth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LL: <\/strong>Please share a couple of your favorite activities on different islands.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TJ: <\/strong>Wow, that\u2019s hard to choose! If I had to pick two, I would say a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/things-to-do\/scenic-valley-horseback-ride.a197431.activity-details\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">jungle expedition<\/a> in Oahu and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/things-to-do\/na-pali-snorkel-picnic-sail.a230491.activity-details?srp=true&amp;location=Kauai%20Island,%20Hawaii&amp;startDate=10\/21\/2016&amp;endDate=10\/28\/2016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">catamaran cruise<\/a> along the Na Pali coast in Kaua\u02bbi. On the jungle expedition, you can horseback ride, drive an ATV, or take a bus through Kualoa, which is one of the biggest cattle ranches in Hawai\u02bbi. It is made up of thick rainforests, large valleys, and gorgeous white sand beaches. Many movies and TV shows have been filmed here. It is incredible! On the catamaran cruise, you sail to the gorgeous Na Pali coast. Massive cliffs tower along the coastline and you can jump in the sapphire blue water below. The snorkeling is beautiful there.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_34762\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34762\" style=\"width: 975px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34762\" src=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/hawaii-hee1.png\" alt=\"Na Pali Coast in Kauai\" width=\"975\" height=\"646\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Na Pali Coast in Kauai<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>LL:<\/strong> That sounds incredible! Kaua\u02bbi is my favorite island. In your opinion, what sets Kaua\u02bbi apart from the rest of the Islands?<\/p>\n<p><strong>TJ: <\/strong>Kaua\u02bbi\u00a0is a special place, because it is the oldest of all the Hawaiian Islands. It is also the most far north, so the climate is a bit different. Kaua\u02bbi gets a little more rain than the rest, but that just makes it even more beautiful. The island is known as \u201cThe Garden Isle\u201d for its green landscape. Tropical rainforests, emerald valleys, and massive waterfalls are abundant in Kaua\u02bbi. There are also many remote areas that are fun for hiking too. Although some places can only be reached by boat or helicopter!<\/p>\n<p><strong>LL: <\/strong>You just named everything I love about Kaua\u02bbi! Where is your favorite spot on the island?<\/p>\n<p><strong>TJ: <\/strong>That\u2019s also hard to choose, but I would have to say Waimea Canyon. It is on the west side of the island and often called \u201cThe Grand Canyon of the Pacific.\u201d It is huge! The canyon is 14 miles long, one mile wide, and more than 3,600 feet deep. There are multiple lookout points where you can hike. The main vantage point, Waimea Canyon Lookout, gives you panoramic views of the buttes that stretch for miles. There is also a lower lookout point, Waimea Canyon Overlook, which gives you a view of the dramatic rock formations in the canyon.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_34763\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34763\" style=\"width: 973px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34763\" src=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/stories\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/hawaii-hee2.png\" alt=\"Waimea Canyon in Kauai\" width=\"973\" height=\"730\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-34763\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Waimea Canyon in Kauai<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>LL: <\/strong>That sounds amazing. Do you recommend any other things to do in Kaua\u02bbi?<\/p>\n<p><strong>TJ:<\/strong> Of course! A fun bonding experience is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/things-to-do\/jungle-kayaking-adventure-optional-ziplining.a285457.activity-details\">jungle kayaking and zip lining<\/a>. You start off by kayaking down a quiet river. Then, you take a 400-foot zip line across two valleys and a waterfall. There is a picnic lunch break, then you float in inner tubes down a river. You stop at a gorgeous waterfall where you can swim or relax on the riverbank. Then, you finish off with a little hiking! It is super fun for families, couples, and groups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LL:<\/strong> Sounds like a blast! Any last recommendations for our readers?<\/p>\n<p><strong>TJ: <\/strong>Yes!
