Thanks to 5,800 miles of near-perfect coastline, sun-starved snowbirds often head to classic beach towns like Cancun, Cabo, and Cozumel. It\u2019s smack in the middle of a cultural renaissance that includes impossible to get into Michelin-starred restaurants, cocktail bars often touted as the world\u2019s best, and leafy neighborhoods where indie shops and sidewalk cafes flourish. The capital has even begun attracting savvy travelers hungering for more than marquee attractions like the Frida Kahlo Museum, the Floating Gardens of Xochimilco, and the Aztec pyramids of Teotihuacan. That\u2019s where a true insider like Ochoa comes in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px;line-height:1.5\">Known affectionately to his throngs of adoring fans as \u201cMemo,\u201d the ace athlete is equally proud of his role as hometown advocate. \u201cWhen I found out that I could be an ambassador for Mexico City, I did not have to think about it at all,\u201d he says of his partnership with Expedia. \u201cIt&#8217;s a city I know very well. I grew up here. I went to school here; I learned to drive and got my license in this city. He made his professional debut for Club Am\u00e9rica in 2004, won his first league title in 2005, and went on to make over 200 appearances as goalie for Am\u00e9rica. Ochoa claims this as his favorite restaurant in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\" style=\"font-size:15px;font-style:normal;font-weight:700;line-height:1\">A Family Affair<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px;line-height:1.5\">\u201cIt is a very special place because it is one of the reasons why I lived and grew up here in Mexico City,\u201d says Ochoa of restaurant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tortasdonpolo\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tortas Don Polo<\/a>, which his father owns and operates. Of course, he\u2019s talking about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.estadioazteca.com.mx\/tour-estadio-azteca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Estadio Azteca<\/a>, the official home of Club Am\u00e9rica and the Mexico National Football team. Located next to the swanky <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Mexico-City-Hotels-JW-Marriott-Hotel-Mexico-City-Santa-Fe.h4869911.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City Santa Fe<\/a>, Ochoa claims Mizrahi Meats as one of his favorites and says it\u2019s a secret spot unknown to most travelers. Its specialty is Black Angus, a marbled meat that is more tender than other cattle and purchased locally in Mexican markets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\" style=\"font-size:15px;font-style:normal;font-weight:700;line-height:1\">Saucy Success<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px;line-height:1.5\">In a city where speculation over who serves up the tastiest taco is the subject of endless debate, Memo\u2019s mind is already set. \u201cThere is a well-known place near Estadio Azteca that always takes care of us called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/elremolkito\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">El Remolkito,<\/a>\u201d says Ochoa. One of the top taquerias around town, El Remolkito is famous for its variety of sauces and rotisserie-style meats like sirloin. \u201cAfter a victory, tacos are a great option.\u201d Ochoa likes to pick them up post-game and devour them at home with his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\" style=\"font-size:15px;font-style:normal;font-weight:700;line-height:1\">St. Regis Mexico City<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:15px;line-height:1.5\">Located along Paseo de la Reforma and just down the street from the roundabout boasting the iconic Angel of Independence, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expedia.com\/Mexico-City-Hotels-The-St-Regis-Mexico-City.h2469062.Hotel-Information\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">St. Regis Mexico City<\/a> proves the real estate maxim that location is everything. This luxury five-star property boasts seven restaurants, a day spa, and guestrooms with marble bathrooms and floor-to-ceiling windows. Towering 31 stories above the city, Ochoa says it offers Mexico City\u2019s best views. He and his family head to the cobbled streets of Coyoac\u00e1n where carts sitting outside the cathedral or within the markets sell the sugary dessert stuffed with dulce de leche, cajeta, vanilla, or chocolate. \u201cIt is certainly something you have to try,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"749\" height=\"562\"
