Description

Get ready for a “pampered paddling” and camping experience in the San Juan Islands. Spend 3 days gorging on an exquisite menu of entrees prepared by chefs, as explore the islands and marvel at the region's fascinating sea life. As the sun sets, relax on beaches sipping glasses of Washington wine.

Day 1 Begin at Friday Harbor. After a short shuttle ride to Roche Harbor—an historic sea village—enjoy a picnic lunch of grilled meat skewers and a hearty black rice salad with lemon vinaigrette.

Get paddling, traveling along the undeveloped eastern shore of San Juan to Spieden Island, and taking a break on Gossip Island. Next, paddle to Prevost Harbor on the northern side of Stuart Island, setting up camp for 2 nights. Eat a joyful happy hour meal, including grilled salmon with smoke sea salt paired with Lost River wines, and rosemary olive oil cake with fruit compote for dessert.

Day 2 After a hearty breakfast of bacon and spinach faro with scrambled eggs, explore the northern shorelines of San Juan Island. Travel through a section of the islands replete with wildlife, passing along the shorelines of Stuart Island, John's Island, and the Cactus Islands. Paddle into Boundary Pass and Haro Strait, a favorite salmon-hunting ground for orca whales.

Reenergize with a fantastic meal of smoked salmon sandwiches and chips, served with Chukar Cherries peach cherry salsa. Return to camp and join your guides for an easy hike to the northwestern point of Stuart Island for sweeping views of the Canadian Gulf Islands and Canadian Coastal Mountains. Eat a happy hour of Fran's salted caramels and local cheese with truffle honey, and short ribs for dinner.

Day 3 After another delicious breakfast, head southeast across Spieden Channel, working up an appetite for curry chicken salad with peaches and chickpeas. Depending on the weather, circumnavigate Stuart Island before saying goodbye. Stop at Posey Island, Washington's smallest state park, for crudités with truffle salt, highlighted by expansive views of the Haro Strait and Vancouver Island to the west.

Finish your journey in the afternoon in Roche Harbor, where your luggage and shuttle van awaits to bring you back to Friday Harbor.
