Enjoy a narrated cruise over Lake Union, Hiram M. Chittenden (Ballard) Locks, Puget Sound, and Elliott Bay. Sit back and let your captain do the driving as you get a waterfront view of some quintessential Seattle destinations.

Lake Union, Seattle's backyard, is home to the famous floating home community seen in the classic Sleepless in Seattle. The commercial docks house many of the vessels from the hit TV show Deadliest Catch and act as an airport, with seaplanes taking off and landing on a regular basis.

On your way from the freshwater of Lake Union to the saltwater of the Puget Sound, you pass through the Ballard Locks. These locks keep Lake Washington and Lake Union about 20 feet (6.1 m) above sea level, hold the saltwater out of the lakes, and provide the public with the opportunity to view the massive salmon runs that pass over the fish ladders.

In the Puget Sound, you pass by several marinas where the full force of Seattle's nautical culture is on display, with thousands of pleasure boats ready to head out into the sound. Astonishing vistas are visible from your boat: Seattle's unique skyline, Mount Rainer hovering in the distance, and ferry boats plying the waters to take their passengers to and from the city.

Part of your locks trip includes a motorcoach transfer; you start and end your trip at the same location, Pier 56.

The first half of this cruise was taking a bus to the boating dock of Lake Union from Pier 55; however, the bus that was supposed to pick us up was arrived 45 min late. Our cruise was supposed to start at 3:45 and they told us to wait in line from 2:20 (25 minutes early). So the total time we waited on line was an hour and 10 minutes (45 + 25). We didn't wanted to loose our place in line, so we stood in line for more than an hour under very hot sun with no shade. Later two buses came and the split us into two groups and we ended getting into the 2nd bus as the last. By the time when we got off the bus and got into the ship, all the nice seats were already taken and the efforts of standing in the line for more than an hour under hot sun was no use. I would have left 1 star, but the people provided us cold water bottles while we were waiting in line and the person explaining about the cruise and locks was very nice.

Ryan was a fantastic guide! Loved the personal knowledge he shared while we were on the cruise. We learned so much about the area we hadn't even learned on the land tours. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars was because I didn't know that a bus was taking us to the Lake from Pier 55 and it happened to be a 90 degree day with broken air conditioning. I wish the salmon were running but I realize that is seasonal. This was one of our favorite activities! Money well spent.

This cruise is a really good value for the time you spend on the boat, the great tour guides and the beautiful views.
