Description

BOAT & BUS Roundtrip Locks Cruise - includes motor coach transfer; Departs and ends at Pier 55

Enjoy a narrated cruise over Lake Union, Hiram M. Chittenden (Ballard) Locks, Puget Sound, and Elliott Bay. Sit back and let your captain do the driving as you get a waterfront view of some quintessential Seattle destinations.

Lake Union, Seattle's backyard, is home to the famous floating home community seen in the classic Sleepless in Seattle. The commercial docks house many of the vessels from the hit TV show Deadliest Catch and the Lake act as an airport, with seaplanes taking off and landing on a regular basis.

On your way from the freshwater of Lake Union to the saltwater of the Puget Sound, you pass through the Ballard Locks. These locks keep Lake Washington and Lake Union about 20 feet (6.1 m) above sea level, hold the saltwater out of the lakes, and provide the public with the opportunity to view the salmon runs that pass over the fish ladders.

In the Puget Sound, you pass by several marinas where the full force of Seattle's nautical culture is on display, with thousands of pleasure boats ready to head out into the sound. Once in Elliott Bay, astonishing vistas are visible from your boat: Seattle's unique skyline, The Olympic Mountains or Mount Rainier hovering in the distance, and ferry boats plying the waters to take their passengers to and from the city.

NOTES: Though the cruise portion of the tour is one way - this Boat & Bus package is a ROUNDTRIP tour and includes a motor coach transfer. Hence, this Locks package will always start and end at the same location - PIER 55.

That said - Depending on the flow through the locks, this tour could start with the boat cruise from Elliott Bay or it could start with a bus transfer over to Lake Union to start the cruise there.

Great fun and informative. The cruise includes a nice tour of the coastline and all the different days and an education on salt versus freshwater bodies and how the locks work of course. Staff was very attentive and the tour guide was very knowledgeable highly recommend.
