Description

This extensive walking tour takes you into the heart of Berlin and reveals the multilayered past that still reverberates across the city today. Learn how this magnificent metropolis has evolved from its time as a stronghold in the Prussian Empire to a modern hub of vibrant culture and art.

Meet your knowledgeable local guide in the center of the city and begin your walking tour, listening to an overview of the city’s history as you head toward The Brandenburger Gate, an 18th century neoclassical monument that is one of the best-known landmarks in Berlin. Your guide has the liberty to lead you wherever you wish, with no strict route to follow, so while you’re sure to see the most iconic landmarks, surprises are likely to arrive throughout the tour.

Stop by Checkpoint Charlie, the well-known crossing point over the Berlin Wall that used to separate the city, tour the superb galleries on Museum Island, and enjoy views of gorgeous architecture at Bebelplatz, an open-air public square sitting near the lovely boulevard of Unter den Linden. This journey reveals a city once caught in the throes of Nazi megalomania and a capital cut in two by the Cold War, allowing you to discover the traumatic legacy etched into the modern additions to the city today.

Guide NEVER show up. We went there early and it was clearly the right place as there was a sign outside the Brandy Brooks icecream shop on Friederstrasse that said " Brewers Berlin Tours Start Here", chained to a pole. It was a freezing cold morning and our ONLY day in Berlin. We thought we would be well covered with this 6 hour tou that we had booked and paid for weeks in advance. No one answered their office phone. It took Expedia 22 minutes of expensive overseas call time to finally admit that they also could not raise anyone on the phone from Brewers. Yes, Expedia says they will give me a refund. But what of my wasted day in Berlin and the cost of waiting on the phone with them? We finally scrambled and joined a Sandemans Tour which was excellent but had to be a shorter one which meant we missed some of the sight we were supposed to see.
