Description

Explore the family-owned estates, quiet country roads, and rolling vineyards of Carneros, a viticultural area that spans both Sonoma and Napa Valley. Sample cool climate varietals and classic NorCal vintages, cruising between wineries by bike and stopping for a gourmet picnic among the vines.

Meet up with your guide on the banks of the Napa River and get situated on your comfortable hybrid bicycle, picking up some rules of the road before setting off at a leisurely pace along mostly flat rural lanes. Stop into several boutique wineries as your guide shares facts and stories about the region’s wine-making heritage and unique climatic characteristics.

There’s no shortage of fantastic cellars to explore in Carneros. You may have the chance to sit in the garden at Bouchaine, meet the husband-and-wife team behind McKenzie-Mueller Vineyards’ estate-bottled wines, learn about solar-powered wine production at Cuvaison, or admire the French-inspired chateau of Domaine Carneros.

Sip on Burgundy-style bottles like chardonnay and pinot noir, and around noon, hop off your bike at a scenic picnic location among the vines. Nibble on local, seasonal, and artisanal goodies like pasta salad, fresh bread, green salads, creamy cheeses, sliced meats, and wild smoked Alaska salmon before jumping back on your bike to continue tasting through the afternoon.
