Description

Set off on a full-day adventure into the pristine natural splendor of Churute Mangroves, an 86,589-acre (35,041-ha) ecological reserve brimming with dense vegetation and thriving wildlife. Cruise along the estuary in a canoe while encountering howler monkeys and other local fauna.

After you're picked up from your hotel, take a relaxing drive to Churute Mangroves, the largest estuary on South America's Pacific coast. Enter the reserve and make your way to a river that cuts through it from east to west, where your friendly guide helps you settle into a canoe.

Dip your paddle into the water and drift peacefully along, listening as your guide enlightens you to the rich plant and animal life that makes this pocket of nature so special. Cruise through scenic channels, keeping your eyes open for ducks, herons, and woodpeckers, as well as land-roaming creatures like anteaters and badgers.

Endemic birds can be seen and heard at every turn, swooping and singing their songs amid the towering trees. Exit the canoe and take a walk along a path usually frequented by howler monkeys before making the trip back to your hotel.
