Explore the best of Nicaragua on a full-day guided tour of the colonial city of Granada, the lush hillsides and steaming craters of Masaya Volcano National Park, the lively Masaya Indian craft market, and a leisurely cruise along the islands of Lake Nicaragua.

After being picked up from your hotel, ride toward the imposing volcanoes on the horizon—Masaya Volcano National Park is home to 2 volcanoes and 5 craters. Peer into the steaming depths of the Santiago Crater and gaze across rugged, lunar fields of black lava flow. At the Plaza de Oviedo look over the rim and hear the story of the Spanish monk who thought the bubbling lava below was gold—he descended into the crater with a bag and emerged alive).

Stop by the traditional arts and crafts market in Masaya, where artisans peddle handmade goods like brightly colored hammocks and woven baskets, then enjoy a delicious lunch of Nicaraguan specialties.

Arrive in Granada and let yourself be charmed by the restored architecture and adobe buildings of this 1524 colonial settlement. Stroll the streets and learn about the history of this Andalusian- and Moorish-inspired city—over the centuries, Granada was sacked by pirates 3 times.

Finally, end your day with a picturesque boat ride through the Islets of Granada on beautiful Lake Nicaragua. This is Central America's largest lake, and the only freshwater lake in the world with sharks. Pass by the small volcanic islands and admire the expansive waters before your return to shore.

I highly recommend this tour company. The tour wa extremely comprehensive and covered the Masaya volcano, city tour of Masaya, a boar ride on Lake Nicarauga to see the monkey islands, gourmet lunch and tour of the colonial city of Granada. Edgar was my tour guide and he spoke perfect english. This is a great tour to start your first visit to Nicaragua. I also recommend the beach city of San Juan del Sur. The people of Nicaragua are very friendly and it is very safe to travel around. Discover this beautiful country before it gets too popular.
