Description

Experience the natural beauty of the Northern Territory's Litchfield National Park, on this Day Tour from Darwin, with Offroad Dreaming. Join us as we make our way through Savannah Woodlands and Monsoon Forest to visit three of the Parks stunning waterfalls, for bushwalks and swimming. Late afternoon we head over to the Adelaide River for a fascinating up close Crocodile Spotting River Cruise led by our local Crocodile Expert.

We depart Darwin between 7-8am, depending on your location and travel South to Litchfield. After about one hour of driving, we make a comfort stop at the Litchfield National Park, where you can purchase a fresh coffee. After coffee we will make a stop at the Magnetic and Cathedral Termite Mounds, where you will learn about their unique role in our Tropical Eco-system.

We take a short drive further South into the Park to Wangi Falls, a magnificent Twin Waterfall and its adjacent plunge pool. This picturesque location can be enjoyed, viewing from the edges of the pool, or with a swim in the tranquil waters. A return loop walk, through surrounding Monsoon Forest is also an option.

While you are swimming your Guide will organise a freshly prepared picnic lunch for you, in a shady spot of the Park. You will have a chance to build back up some of that energy, for the next adventures.

After lunch a short drive takes us to Buley Rockhole, where we find an intricate series of rock formations creating cascading waterfalls that flow into rockpools, for a refreshing dip or swim. Walk across the rocks for the best views of the lush woodland, lounge on the smooth sand stone platforms in this magical tropical oasis and then immerse yourself in the clear waters to cool off.

Florence Creek is a short bush walk from the car park and hosts cool flowing waters that feed into the main waterfall of Florence Falls. You can walk past the lookout down into the crisp swimming pool, that is fed from the waterfall itself. This steep cliff edged pool is large and deep and is ideal for a refreshing swim. Waters flow over shallow rock pools where you can find a spot to relax.

Mid afternoon we depart the Park and head over to the Adelaide River for our Private Group Crocodile Spotting Cruise. Our local wildlife expert will give you a new appreciation of these magnificent creatures as he shares his knowledge and expertise. We depart the water towards the end of the day and make our way back to Darwin as the sun is setting.

Guide gave a great commentary on the types of flora and fauna we were looking at. Any appropriate question was answered in detail. The crocodile cruise was such an eye opener. I have such great respect for a unique creature now. The Adelaide River guide was also one of a kind.

Excellent guide, very knowledgeable. The whole day was well organised and couldn’t fault it. Being a small group, weren’t herded around like cattle. Thoroughly recommend this company.
