Take a journey through Nikko city and explore its rich history and fascinating architecture. Observe the intricate craftsmanship and enriching details at Nikko Toshogu and the Tamozawa Imperial Villa.

Head 87 miles (140 km) north of Tokyo and visit Nikko Toshogu, a Shinto shrine that is part of the Shrines and Temples of Nikko, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Marvel at the elaborate carvings, marvelous architecture, and artistic splendor as you walk through numerous buildings in a beautiful forest setting.

Break for a delicious Japanese lunch before making your way to Tamozawa Imperial Villa. A former home to members of the Tokugawa clan, it combines architectural styles from the Edo, Meiji, and Taisho periods. Stroll through beautifully landscaped gardens as you immerse yourself in the serene setting of this location.

Next, take a hike to the observatory deck located in front of one of Nikko’s three famous waterfalls, Kirifuri Waterfall, whose water descends from a height of 264 feet (75 m). Continue to the parts of Tokyo that doesn’t sleep—Shinjuku and Ginza—where your guide will explain how to return to your hotel. But feel free to experience some of the nightlife of this remarkable area before you go.

Well organized and a great guide

Nikko was very beautiful, although there were quite a few people there. After the shrine you get to eat a traditional Japanese lunch and visit a beautiful waterfall. The drive is a bit long, but totally worth it!

This is an excellent tour, and the guide, Amy,

was enthusiastic and very responsible. Recommended to anyone who first visit Japan.

Bus ride from the terminal was quite long, 2 1/2

hours. Should prepare since you get picked up from the hotel super early and then transfer on to different bus at the terminal. Worth while site seeing, except our guide was quiet and didn't explain much. It all depends who you end up but would still recommend, the natural beauty alone and Nikko shogun temple was beautiful
