Description

Founded in 1590 and ruled by the Qutub Shahi Kings, Hyderabad was the most powerful of all the states of erstwhile Deccan. Hyderabad even today has a strong flavour of its rich past and its history speaks not only in its marvellous buildings but also in its language, customs, food and etiquette. Now almost a part of sprawling Hyderabad, Golconda has grand fortifications, a citadel, numerous mosques, tombs, pavilions. The main citadel is 120 m high and is situated on a hill and is surrounded by walls of solid stone. Unfortunately, many of these structures have suffered a great deal from past sieges and the ravages of time.Situated close to the fort are the tombs of the Qutub Shahi rulers. These graceful tombs are constructed on square bases and surrounded by arches and landscaped gardens.Salar Jung Museum is third largest museum in India. It has unique collection of antiques, rare art treasures and gems as well as miniature paintings. All these are the representatives of the great wealth of the Nizam, who once was the wealthiest man in the world.Located in old Hyderabad, the famed Charminar, with its four minarets, built at the end of the 16th century, is one of the landmarks of the city. Situated close to Charminar is the legendary Laad Bazaar famous for bangles, bidri ware and pearls. In old Hyderabad, you will also be taken to visit the Mecca Mosque, Nizam’s Museum at Purani Haveli and you will also walk around the area to see the artisans – bangle makers, lac workers, etc.
