Description

Head to the most northeasterly point on the British mainland with a day trip to John O'Groats. Starting from Inverness, join a guide and travel through the magnificent Caithness, keeping an eye out for unique wildlife. At John O'Groats, venture to Duncansby Head for dramatic views of the sea.

Your journey begins as you set out across the beautiful Black Isle to Cromarty Firth. While you drive through the picturesque scenery of the peninsula, your guide recounts the tale of the First Duke of Sutherland, who played a key role in the notorious Highland Clearances in the 18th and 19th centuries. Continue on through Caithness, a region of mostly unspoiled landscapes. Keep an eye out for rare wildlife as you drive to a harbor town, where you take lunch.

After your meal, journey north to your destination of John O'Groats. Stop in town to snap a commemorative photo under the famous “Journey's End” signpost before continuing to Duncansby Head, the most northeasterly point of the British mainland. From a cliff-top path on Duncansby, savor striking views of the ocean and mighty waves crashing against jagged sea stacks just offshore. Also, catch sight of the varied bird species that occupy the area, including guillemots, kittiwakes, and puffins, before returning to Inverness.

There were only eight passengers in the 16 seater minibus, so had plenty of space. Our driver/guide - Sandy Mitchell, was very friendly and knowledgeable regarding the history, geography, geology etc. of the areas we travelled through. He also has a lively sense of fun. Although the weather forecast was for rain, we were very lucky to miss most of it and didn’t get wet at all! We would recommend Scottish Highland Tours to anyone. Many thanks again.
