Description

The peninsula of Gallipoli was the site of a furious battle in WWI; discover the history behind one of the bloodiest sieges of the Great War. With visits to genuine fighting locations and stirring memorials to fallen troops, you’ll not only hear cruel tales but also admire the beautiful scenery.

Journey out of Istanbul to Turkey’s northwest corner where you find the Gallipoli Peninsula, which juts into the deep-blue Aegean Sea. Your expert guide explains the doomed campaign of Allied forces in 1915; hear how predominantly ANZAC (Australia and New Zealand) troops were deployed to force the Turkish army back. See the landing site of ANZAC Cove and battle setting of The Nek as you chronicle the events in those fateful months.

At cenotaphs built to commemorate those who lost their lives, remember some of the 100,000 who bravely fought here. With Lone Pine for Australians and Chunuk Bair for New Zealanders, citizens of Allied nations can come to see the emotive monuments, now etched onto the striking landscape. Over a traditional Ottoman lunch, you can sit back, relax, and take a moment to appreciate the tranquil environment that can now enjoy peace.

Excellent day trip to the main sites of the Gallipoli campaign. Very well researched information from tour guide Boruk from Crowded House Tours - he is a local from Cannakkale with a good English. It is a very long day with 4-5 hrs travel each way plus 4hrs of site visits - 6.30am pickup from Istabul Hotel and returned at 10.30pm. Neon Tour operator responded to initial Expedia booking but did not confirm back with pickup time until contacted night priot to trip. However, an excellent trip overall.
