Description

Immerse yourself in the rich heritage, bohemian charm, and tumultuous history of Bucharest on this half-day sightseeing tour. Experience Romanian village life at an open-air museum, meander your way down Old World streets, and travel through time in Revolution Square to witness the end of Communism.

Your first stop of the day is the Village Museum, one of the biggest and most impressive open-air museums in all of Europe. Roam its nearly 37 acres (15 ha) to get a feel for Romanian village life, wandering around the 272 authentic peasant farms that call the property home.

From here, travel past the mosaic-lined Romanian Patriarchal Cathedral and into Constitution Square, which grants you unparalleled views of the dramatic Palace of Parliament, the most expensive administrative building in the world. Make your way into Revolution Square, where the end of Communist rule was declared in 1989. Gaze upon the magnificent architecture that dots the square, including the stately Central University Library, and hear how these buildings were traumatically affected by fires during that very same revolution.

Cap off your day with a stroll to the center of Bucharest, where the Romanian Athenaeum sits. With its blue dome, towering columns, ornate auditorium, and lush gardens in the front, this romantic concert hall is recognized nationwide as a symbol of Romanian culture.

Good tour, good guide, nice choice to spots to visit. It was billed as a 'Walking Tour' but we spent a lot of time riding in the van to different spots, which is fine, but I would have preferred more walking. Tour guide was quite good, friendly and knowledgeable.
