Description

Clatter along the path of Gold Rush-era fortune seekers as you climb through the forested slopes of White Pass on the historic White Pass & Yukon Route railway. Steam through dark tunnels, skirt alpine lakes, and chug down into Skagway, where clapboard storefronts hearken back to frontier days.

Join your guide in downtown Whitehorse and head to the train station, where you can hop aboard one of the well-preserved cars of the White Pass & Yukon train. Settle into a wooden seat in the historic train's parlor cars, whose wide windows offer sweeping views of the landscapes rolling by. Hear the whistle blow and feel the train churn to life, pulling you toward the snow-dusted peaks that circle White Pass.

Hear about the Gold Rush frontiersmen who used this train to ferry supplies between Skagway and Whitehorse, and find out how it continued its service during World War II. Reach Skagway in late morning and hop out to enjoy strolling between the quaint cafes, intriguing museums, and bygone bars of this frozen-in-time town. When you're ready to head back, catch the return train back to Whitehorse, getting second chances to snap photos of evergreen forests and craggy peaks on the way.
