Description

Dive into the significant history of Jamaica as you journey back in time to the days of the slaves, the British Army, and the Spanish invaders. Travel along the north coast of the island, stopping to see the remains of the slave trade and the site of the fiercest battle between the Spanish and British.

Following hotel pickup in the morning, set off along the north coast to gain insight into the early days of Jamaica. With a knowledgeable guide behind the wheel, make your way to the Firefly Estate, a mountaintop site once used as a lookout by the infamous pirate Sir Captain Henry Morgan.

From here, stop to see the ruins of the Taino people, the indigenous inhabitants of the island, who were eventually destroyed by the Spanish in the 1500s. Travel forward in time as you make a visit to the Rio Nuevo Battle Site, the place of the final pitched battle between the British and Spanish to determine possession of the island.

After a stop for lunch at a local eatery, you continue on through the lush rainforest until you reach Lodge, a district once home to slave plantations beginning in the 1600s. Stop to see the ruins of slave quarters in nearby Mile End before making the drive back to your hotel.
