Description

For Lord of the Rings fans, this is the trip where Nomad Safaris really does take you There and Back again. Bring the films to life with our authentic replica props, dress up and take photos, or simply soak up the scenery.

For film enthusiasts and nature-lovers alike, lose yourself in the fictional Forest of Lothlorien and the Camp at Ithilien while enjoying a guided-4WD tour of the rugged and beautiful South Island of New Zealand—used by Peter Jackson for location filming of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

After being picked up in a 4WD from your hotel, the tour follows the shoreline of Lake Wakatipu. Soak up the landscape as you head for Glenorchy, the “Gateway to Paradise”, a route recognized as one of the world’s great scenic drives.

In Glenorchy, tour locations from X-men Origins: Wolverine, and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Your guide then drives you to Dart Valley; pause beside Dart River with its backdrop of snow-capped mountains to take in the location for Isengard. Ponder Mount Earnslaw’s overhanging glacier, featured in the first Hobbit movie, as you are let in on secret filming locations from the trilogy.

From here you travel to Paradise Forest, the location for the Lothlorien forest, the Seat of Seeing, and the Battle of Amon Hen.

On the return trip to Queenstown, stop at the secluded 12 Mile Delta, the location for the Ithilien Camp, with its views of Lake Wakatipu and the mountains.

Beautiful scenery and very interesting. We felt the tour guide was a bit rushed at the beginning but was fine after. Anyone who is tall should ask to sit up front in the van - tall people don’t see much in the back seat behind the driver.
