Spend an unforgettable ice-filled day on an adventurous and epic trek. Scale the 10,000-year-old Matanuska Glacier, exploring its deep crevasses and blue melt-water pools. Along the way, enjoy tranquil scenery and learn about the glacier's features and history.

Bundle up for your early morning pickup, and then head off the beaten path with your guide to the 27-mile-long (44-km) frozen wonder. Along the way, take in breathtaking views of the Chugach and Talkeetna mountain ranges whose rise helped shape the area.

Arrive to the towering face of the Matanuska Glacier, the largest roadside Alaskan glacier and source of the Matanuska River. Slip your metal crampons on your boots and use your trekking pole to assist you through rocky terrain as you start your ascent of the giant's sheer blue ice walls.

As your guide steers you away from any danger, admire unique ice formations and listen as water cascades down from the surface into vertical shafts called moulins. Hear the creaking and popping of the moving, gravel-laced behemoth as your expedition's leader points out the cavernous cracks in its ice called crevasses and the jagged pinnacles called seracs that the crevasses form when they intersect.

After a full day of chilly-yet-exciting exploration, treat yourself to some delicious food at a nearby rustic lodge. Then, return back through the wintry wonderland to your warm Anchorage hotel.

This is a great experience, and our host Lori was so great and kind, before (via e-mails), during and after our tour. To be in the Matanuzka glaciar was the best we did while we were in Anchorage for a few days, and we took several tours. The guides at the Glaciar were great too; they really take you to the guts of this wonder of nature. This glaciar would be our recommendation number one if you visit this area of Alaska, and to do it with 907 Tours, I think it had an extra positive effect.

BUCKET LIST! Took the Matanuska Glacier Tour today - was blown away! Kris, our guide, was INCREDIBLE! A native of Anchorage, he gave us so much info on the drive up and back. Was a great driver and just a super nice guy. The Matanuska Glacier was mind-blowing!! Photos don’t do it justice. IMHO: If you visit Alaska and don’t take this tour, you are missing out on memories that will last a lifetime!
